Our Final Time
When we said goodbye, it was like
The poison we have been ignoring
For years slipped from my body for
The final time. This was our last strike
This time. The memories are storing
Themselves away into every drawer
And filing cabinet because I still want
To remember them, but I cannot keep
Looking back on what I have prayed
For. Something that will try to haunt
Me. You did not want to dive deep
At all. I wish you could have stayed,
But I am not going to keep you here
If you want to leave again and again,
On the edge of this second-guessing.
You not with me, but over there.
You are always among every grain
Of sand and someone else’s blessing.
The poison we have been ignoring
For years slipped from my body for
The final time. This was our last strike
This time. The memories are storing
Themselves away into every drawer
And filing cabinet because I still want
To remember them, but I cannot keep
Looking back on what I have prayed
For. Something that will try to haunt
Me. You did not want to dive deep
At all. I wish you could have stayed,
But I am not going to keep you here
If you want to leave again and again,
On the edge of this second-guessing.
You not with me, but over there.
You are always among every grain
Of sand and someone else’s blessing.
