Interesting thought - a man indentifying himself through his wife. I hear of women whose identity they say is through their marriages and husbands.

Very true.But the new school woman has learnt be her own Wo-man and would not mind (among many other things)him taking up her name!And why not?

Now I get it, yes I hear plentiful of women in this country who keep their single names and use it in hyphen with the husband's although I have not seen husbands reciprocate, as appears when I read news stories that involve a couple. However, especially among richer landowning people there has been a tradition of husbands taking on a wife's family surname as a condition of inheritance.
