ABYSSAL

I once voyaged through your eyes
Through an ocean of despair
And I saw my soul fading behind
Toiling to haul you back to shore

In spite of my ways, I bore my scars to you
And you availed them to pierce me through
Now tell me, what am I meant to do?

Years have passed us by
We wither under the rays of a stolen sun
And despite the ambiguity of recollection
It is life that we lost

If you could see through the blinding light
You'd see me bathed in the darkest night

Winter departs once again
To dissolve death in opened eyes
Yet this is the season I most despise
Far too beautiful for a wraith, as I

For what loathsome a creature
To be forever imprisoned by sin
And scour the warren eternally
For a single drop of amnesty

Catharsis denied
Veiled beyond the gloom
Following footsteps in the mire
Are they my own?

And that scent, flowing past me
Gentle as a whisper in my ear
Brought my heart to eclipse

I drowned for a dagger in my chest
And in those depths, was laid to rest

That hole never scabbed over
The blood has stopped flowing
And worse than you could imagine
Is the pain of being unable to feel it
Growing

My world is an abyss
In which I am the black bird
Silent pariah, untethered
Searching for an even darker place
