Mankind in Dreamland
Pestered and pursued
by unknown foes
A topsyturvy land
where snakes can have horns
and cows can have fangs.
Night'mares' where the day's stallions
make mountains out of molehills
A chance to witness greek mythology-like creatures for real
For dreamland tis a place for the unreal and surreal.
Those hair-raising scary scary dreams
beset with horrified silent screams!
We do try to interrupt nightmares, pinching ourselves
With relief wake up to see there aren't any horrid elves.
We also try to interpret dreams filled with mystery
But gifted dream interpreters like prophet Joseph
Are now part of biblical human history
All in all, dreamland's fascination
for extra-ordinary exaggeration
and tall-tale imagination
Where myth and legend come to life
An amalgam of fiction or real strife
Where assorted monsters of the mind
reign supreme in that REM sleep of our kind.
Yet on the other hand the wishful, wistful sweet sweet dreams
where fantasies form mirages bordered by fanciful seams.
Where castles in the air that humans build, float gently down to earth
only to shoot back up unto nowhere from the awakened one's berth.
In dreamland a pauper girl can be a princess or fairy fair
for daydreams extend into the night and linger on there.
A quote I took to heart and it to console all and sundry
'that if your sweet dreams don't come true, don't you fret
for atleast your nightmares didn't come true either,
so just heave a sigh, by and by.
Every night let us all just fly away and escape
And lo behold the extraordinary world of Dreamscape.

Enjoyed this. The interlink of myth, legend, ethereal & reality. Nice one.

Re. Mankind in Dreamland
Yes, you are pretty thorough in trying to capture both good dreams and bad.
I feel bad about the fewness of my good dreams. After all, dreams are not bounded by the limitations we have in this world.
I did have a good - semi heavenly - dream a couple of months back.
I remember the part about jogging in a field (or was it down a hillside?).
Anyway, i walk with a crutch, so jogging is not possible for me. But in the dream, there i was -- jogging like i used to love to do. And it was over in Israel !!

Thanx so much for such a philosophic great comment. Yes our inability to control and coordinate ESP in nightmares is terrifying. I remember it was hard to scare a djinn with holy verses in my nightmare and he troubled me many nights until I got a holy charm. Don't laugh, I tell u it worked really.
Best wishes n happy new yr.

"that if your sweet dreams don't come true, don't you fret
for at least your nightmares didn't come true either,"
This is something we all should keep in mind; life isn't always fair, but we have to at least take heart in that nothing bad happened either. This is another pleasant poem to read, and I enjoy your positive vibes. The world could use more of it.

Yes, I want to dream up a beautiful poem one day or awake with an extraordinary tune that I can actually remember. Details in dreams are often quickly forgotten as we rise. I write something called 'Neverland' for a competition on here once & that's all about a utopian existence of happy chocolate & lots of sex, lol. ;-)

In what you write you bring forth all the aspect of mythology and more but reality sets all truths and lies are now stamped in by our wants not truth
