That Awkward Moment
That awkward moment when
You realize maybe you'd rather die alone
Than to fall head over heels
Give yourself completely
Spend more time as an "Us" or a "We"
So much that life without your counterpart
Would require an immense amount of readjustment
Of your whole life
Because falling in love like that
Is dangerous
Eventually, you don't even know
What you are without your other half
You realize this whole time
You've been walking around---partial
Completed only by the tingles of fingertips
Trailing your skin
And midnight whispers of "I love you"
And groggy good mornings
Filled with shameless rested yawns
It is that awkward moment when
You realize it might be easier
To get used to the emptiness in your bed
Than to endure the new emptiness of your life
When your love passes on
It is that awkward moment when
Finding the love of your life
Causes you to contemplate the morbidity
Of til death do us part
You realize maybe you'd rather die alone
Than to fall head over heels
Give yourself completely
Spend more time as an "Us" or a "We"
So much that life without your counterpart
Would require an immense amount of readjustment
Of your whole life
Because falling in love like that
Is dangerous
Eventually, you don't even know
What you are without your other half
You realize this whole time
You've been walking around---partial
Completed only by the tingles of fingertips
Trailing your skin
And midnight whispers of "I love you"
And groggy good mornings
Filled with shameless rested yawns
It is that awkward moment when
You realize it might be easier
To get used to the emptiness in your bed
Than to endure the new emptiness of your life
When your love passes on
It is that awkward moment when
Finding the love of your life
Causes you to contemplate the morbidity
Of til death do us part
