Nubian Minnesotans
Somalian women
Walk slowly past me
Dressed in beautiful robes
In a spectrum colors
They're adorned in
Mystical fragrances
Of fresh cut flowers
And blended citrus
Bring back to me
A childhood memory
Of when I was enchanted
By my first bowl of
Fruit Loops cereal
The Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis Minnesota is home to large population of Somalians. Nearly everyday I encounter these wonderful people. Most fascinating are the beautiful Somalian women wearing their bright robes of many colors. Adding to my fascination, these women wear natural based perfumes that are fragrant but not over powering.
These new citizens of the far North, bring colorful beauty to our streets, especially during our long dreary winters.

Those are some beautiful sights to behold. Ever ask why they chose such a change in environment from what they were accustom to? It would be interesting to know.

Don't need to wonder about the answer. In his movie,Gran Torino, Clint Eastwood provides the answer in a few lines.
When Clint gives a young Hmong refugee a ride he queries him as to how he came to a place so cold.
Kid: "Blame the Lutherans. They brought us up here."
Clint: "Everybody blames the Lutherans."
Minnesota is home to one of the largest Lutheran populations in North America. Lutheran Social Service is responsible for helping refugees from all over the world find homes here.
Some folks respect them for this, others greatly dislike them, blaming Lutheran's for eroding traditional American Culture.
As a outlaw Lutheran myself, I'm all for it. Anything to piss those Baptists off!

I admire this poem. In Iowa, they always drape their heads in beautiful fabric.
