Maria's Spring Cleaning
This day
without prior notice or warning
without any reason she cared to share
she stopped being a lone swimmer
in his stream of tears
and she became the exit sign
that showed him the way out.
She cleaned her closet
one skeleton at a time
emptying all memories in heavy duty plastic
and then peacefully
transitioned to the longest pause
smiling at the single thought
she allowed entrance to her mind
"It's not that tomorrow never came, dear;
simply you weren't there
when it did!..."

There's such depth to this piece. The emotion walks across the page and settles into the heart. Beautiful

I love the subtle transition throughout this piece..! Deeply meaningful...
Now no one can use the excuse "Tomorrow never came for me" anymore lol

I'm glad you're getting a little bit of the humor in the way we live our lives... Much appreciated!

Dear Crim, I'm really appreciative of your comments. I'm always trying to have my narrators stir away from, at least, naming emotions and, perhaps, this has something to do with readers feeling so emotional about certain poems. Your comments have helped me make the connection. Thank you!

I lost breaths, every one of them
seeped from me.
