Overcoming Bondage
culpability;
ultimate apathy
his ‘inability’
to hold his own
in this crazy
modern day world
understanding
though I am
this place is a monster
eating every shred
of viable emotion
snaking and enslaving
every soul
...but comes a time
when you cannot hide
cannot stay sheltered
from the real world
society’s sickness
we cannot unfurl
though weary
we must take heed
step forward from
your constructs
stand tall in spite
claim your self
responsibilities
be the change
there comes a time
in everyone’s life
to leave
the past behind
lay rest to
false identities
raise your head
in noble pursuit
it’s up to you
and me as well...
what will our
story tell?

I have so many "masks" or false identities. Sometimes it is hard to pinpoint where the mask ends and where I begin.
Thanks for this deep poem :)

May we each be the light we seek in the darkened times of humanity. Hopefully our stories will tell of the many whose pain we helped alleviate through love and caring. ❤
Lovely poem, Gem.

The last half of the first stanza is priceless
"this place is a monster
eating every shred
of viable emotion
snaking and enslaving
every soul "
it makes me want to say "honey i love what you've done with the place!" lol.
all joking aside the last half of this piece tells me to take a stand
move forward
manifest destiny !
my past haunts me like flowing waters from "a river runs through it"
they've grown to be part of me i feel.
