A memory escaped me, like many of its nature: a to b etc
The road forked
and we held hands
until the gap
between our paths
grew larger
than arms length
and we held hands
until the gap
between our paths
grew larger
than arms length

And so it goes; some gaps close as the journey progress while others grow wider as ditches are dug:) Lepp.

g'mornin That it does, Grace. I guess one should be wary of carrying a shovel on such journeys :) muchly appreciate your presence and words

As I read, and re`read
I envision a couple
taking a stroll through life
that will eventually
lead them on different paths
either to happiness or heartbreak;
forked road
I interpret as the Devil
meddling
because that`s what he likes
to do, what he`s meant to do;
the motto [to me]
don`t veer into temptation,
stay on the path of the righteous,
but god`damn how that path
to wickedness is often so un`avoidable ...
An excellent observation, Craic
so thought provoking
in the littlest of words ...

Hullo, Lady a very decent vision with an open ended end. speaking for myself, my devil is me. a man with a shovel and an affinity to wicked. I like your motto also. though words like righteous scare me a little heh heh I also like you've dropped in and left your thought prints, and thank you for both

I'm wondering about the first line, whether it would be of benefit to swap it around so it reads "again, where it was"
Just something that I was thinking of in terms of flow when I read it. It's a fantastic visual though - so desperate, the separation. Hope they were worth holding on to.
Thanks for sharing.

i like your shift in shorter poems, hope you continue. I agree with miss sub's suggestion, swapping those words does read more fluid.
I find that shorter poems work best with word economy. Don't fill the gaps with words, despite how tempting it may be. With that being said, i would even make the first line shorter than it is. Something along the lines of:
again,
the road forked

Hullo and thank you very much, Ophie. you make a lot of sense. I have a habit of trying to fill gaps again, the road forked works well. I may even take out the again. thought it was important at first, but I think it's omittence might not be as bad as I first susspected many thanks for your support and advise, Lady. muchly appreciated
Re. A memory escaped me, like many of it's nature: a to b etc
One of our most difficult experiences in life...struggling to accept the fact that, inevitably---from time to time--there will be special individuals, whom were meant to share our pathway for such a short while. And yet...even when the journey leads them away, they remain close within the sorted boxes of safe-kept memories--the bitter-sweet ones..
Mo chara....with so few words, you have not only captured the essence of poignant sadness, but also the wistful longing of just such a memory. ( and right now...this one resonates personally).
Your postings have been missed!

Good evening to you, Enchanted one you speaketh the truth. experiences are difficult enough and there is much merit in acceptance special individuals are few and far between. you, for example are very special so quite rare among humans go raibh maith agut

This reminds me of "The Road Less Travelled" by Robert Frost. You've written a surprisingly deep and complex poem, for one so short and sweet, if you know what I mean. It implies so much emotion and history through the single metaphor of the forked road.
Small thing: in the title, "it's" shouldn't have an apostrophe because it's being used in a possessive context (as opposed to an abbreviation of "it is").

Hullo I used to write "its" too much cos I didn't understand it. nowadays I type it's too much because I don't understand it. ..that's to to say, if I think about it I can understand it ..I'm not swimming with the dolphins just yet. but I mostly get it backwards ...as do you I suppose, in a roundabout way heh heh *hat tip*

Loved it! Who says comedy does not belong in poetry... Was it the shortness of the arms, or, the care free holding?
