Villanelle Nr.05 — Easter Sunday Revisted
Mysteriously, when I did the sums it came to more …
the tragedies, the vexing and the pains went home for tea
ending for once the need to ask “but why, what for?”
The search for solid ground came flying o’er the tor
settling on my shoulders a lighter burden, just for me …
mysteriously, when I did the sums it came to more
Gifted yokes are easy when springing from an inner core
delighting heartfelt senses and lifting life for free
ending for once the need to ask “but why, what for?”
Certain forces, used to beating people bloody raw
are always stunned when life springs back so vitally -
mysteriously, the proving of the sums still comes to more
and other forces, like crop circles, arrive to reassure ...
state their message through the ages for those who choose to see
and end for once the need to ask “but why, what for?”
The man-on-the-cross blasted a wormhole straight to heaven’s door
with death and resurrection nailed in history -
mysteriously, sums done, it comes to more
need never ask again “but why, what for?”

ending for once the need to ask “but why, what for?”
