Love is a Verb
I've been growing a tiny
cutting since last autumn;
She moved into a pot
from a windowsill glass
that was once a cup
before tasting her first
drops of summer rain.
By late spring she'll be ready
for moist soil; by summer
she will have survived
harsh winter elements;
by early autumn she'll
birth a new cutting.
She will grow to a mighty
flower from a little cup
not because I'm a gardener
or have a green thumb
But because I Loved her.

Aaaaah.... this is just beautiful!!! Makes me want to go and give something the space to grow... (and I am terrible at lookign after plants)....LOL
Love how you took time to look at what this little cutting will go thru. Never thought of it like that before. Picture you chose just completes it.

Thanks, Miz_C! Welcome to DUP! I'm glad this resonated with you. The photo is the actual cutting in my kitchen. Just a quick cell-phone shot that inspired the write. Imma hate to put her out in a few weeks. I'll miss her! But such is the cycle of life, gotta give everything ample space to grow.
What's that old saying, "A sapling cannot grow under the shadow of a mighty oak." I need to check out your work!

It is poetry like this that makes me believe in magic- the beauty of life. The meaning behind your words in so embracing and warm. I love this poem. Beautiful piece of work with a deep meaning. If only everyone could be treated as this plant has been. Much love to you.

I found this gem on Naajir's RL and had to ad it to my own
for the way it spoke to me on three different levels.
First and the most obvious is the satisfaction I find in gardening also.
Yet, as I read, I thought of how it metaphorically describes
how one should raise a daughter, nurturing her growth,
moving through the different stages of life
and allowing her space to grow into her own.
Lastly the photo also shows a vine plant that reminds
me of the one I have growing in my dining room. I have
had it for the last 15 years, having been given a start
from the owner of a Greek restaurant in our area that
we frequent often. She told us she had brought it with
her from Greece when they came here to join her family
many years ago. She had the plant growing on shelving
that completely surrounded the large dining area of the
building, maybe a total 200 feet, emanating from two
different containers.
About 7 years ago, the restaurant suffered a fire that
destroyed the much of the building and they were forced
to completely rebuild and the plant was lost.
After they reopened, I asked her about the plant and she
said it was no longer for she did not have any of it
elsewhere. When next we dined there, I took a large portion
from the plant she had given me and it is now growing
once more on shelves her husband had installed and it again
graces the atmosphere of her home away from home.
Now your thoughtful poem and photo will reside in a
permanent spot on my RL as well.
Thank you for such a wonderful gift.

This seems to be a cutting that produced the cutting I recently commented on LOL.
I see the cutting as a metaphor for the soul seperated ( to a degree ) from Source and growing into its own because Love has arranged all the necessary conditions. We are all transplants; those who understand that have an endless supply of Love to give, just as the plant yields cuttings that yield cuttings. 📝❤
Forgive my weak commentary when this was first published. NaPo had completely scatterbrained.
