lent (tanka)
the crucified bridge
outstretched arms over water
from darkness to light
mud-caked hiking boots trample
rusted nails securing it

"The crucified bridge" - there's enough in those three words to keep me going for weeks.

This is profound for me. What must sometimes be endured to reach the light can often be disheartening. Yet, what we endure makes us who we are and we are often stronger and the light often burns brighter. Thank you for this Ahavati.
Reminds me of the teacup and the potter story. Here is a link if you don't know it. It is a favorite:)

That's a beautiful story. I've read it somewhere but I can't remember where. Seems like it may have been in "Guideposts". Have you ever read Gibran's "The Prophet"? Particularly "On Love"? http://www.katsandogz.com/onlove.html

I love his writing...he wrote my most favorite quote "Out of suffering has emerged the strongest of souls. The most massive of characters are seared with scars"... I read his words "On Love" a long time ago yet somehow, I guess with age and experience, It carries more weight and has more meaning. Thank you for reminding me. Bless...

I'm glad you gave this bridge a second look Ahavati. There is so much to say about its history...
Perhaps, one day I shall cross the same bridge and write about it. There are so many ordinary objects we take for granted that can be truly extraordinary in our interpretations.
Lovely read.

Thank you, Lost One. There is so much beauty in the aged. Be it a person, place, or thing.
They're the link to our history through the energy they give those willing to receive. There's everything on the solitude of this bridge, children playing, lovers walking, families picnicking, animals resting, and ghosts beckoning. But the most beautiful is that aged man over by the tree remembering his younger days.

The eye for detail here is sharp and punchy. You really create a sense of place, like a linguistic photograph, which is the aim of these short Asian poetic forms.

From light to dark.....makes me think of being a kid taking the short cut across the scary bridge to race street lamps home-you see I had to be home by the time the one outside our house came on...lololol... I usually won

I remember that vividly. Racing through the woods to get home in time...streetlights were the alarm clock! Thanks for the read!
