Blackberry Winter
Stars line tree limbs
as robins chest
breathes
morning light
blessed yellow feather
red-heads and bellies
dance with black-caps
sewn and sow song
with dark eyed tit-mouse
babe blades
thrust
from under snow wrapped palaces
the glinting green
hugged on hooves
kiss the timid doe
slow settings
told in tones
that sea with endless brown
warble
with me mourning dove
set in couple
splitting bean
the aromatic blessings
waft pure
on crisp Spring air
behold
the hues
they are bright
golden
orange now
kissing the shoulders
ties
belong

The key to this poem doesn't lie so much in the movement of the seasons, as it does the animals you choose to progress this story. Starting with the robin - the iconic winter bird, gently giving way to the slumbering mouse, the gently emerging doe and the dove, mourning things that have been.
The finisher of 'ties belong' is such a simple statement, but one that breathes a connection and an awareness of the world that is so often lost in this age. 'Kissing the shoulders' is also an interesting statement. Anybody can kiss a cheek or a mouth, but it takes intimacy and relationship to lovingly dwell on a shoulder. A clever little tender snippet.
Three cheers to the waking world, my friend. Thank you for the read.

Love the title as I can only
begin to interpret that as
Spring`s idea of Winter
woven in words that
invoke the idea of
sitting near a lit hearth
wrapped in a blanket
with coffee & a good book ...
truly exhilarating, my Friend
~love to you, Devlin

An absolutely beautiful write, Gabriel, like a refreshing walk in the snowy woods. Ok, maybe a short walk because of last week's storm but it's every bit as gorgeous none the less ! Great job !

Such details! and the way you describe even the smallest movement, light, sound in such a delicate way that one wants to pay close attention. Makes me think you live near woods mister Soul that there's great deal of appreciation to nature. This is truly a beautiful write :)

No ...You remember...it's a concrete jungle where I'm at!!! Thank You for appreciating the details :*
Re. Blackberry Winter
I love how you couple winter's icy arms with spring's warm hands, digging it's way from frozen soil.
A slow but inexorable transition from a certain stillstand to explosions of movement. And inbetween - a foreboding of new life ...
Soul, I love it. Just as I thought I would :-).
