[ On Poetry ] Lap Dancer

Darling, Sweetie, Hun
When I run
I'm poetry in motion

My Eight Mile high
from love of exercise---
a true devotion

Sticking the landing
on every stanza
I come across---
feet not missing a beat
making better time
than ever before

You propose taking me on
in a race finish lined
or in a battle of wits
Though shiny trophies
aren't what I'm after
I'm certainly all for
inspiring laughter in fits

dancing literary laps around
you --- might want to call it quits

passing man and woman by
lagging in performance;
enhancement drugs slowing them
trying to keep up appearances
just to meet quote unquote quotas

Darling, Sweetie, Hun
I'm poetry in motion
when I run

I always was
