In Memory of a Mail Box

.
The children have all grown & moved away,
The dedicated parents are retired.

Everyone is green by using email,
Their orders sent to them by Amazon.

And yet the faithful mail box stands guard,
Its colors faded just a little bit.

Here front & center in the couple's yard,
With nothing left inside as days go on.

The daily news, like rolled up tubes, flies by,
The neighbor's dog won't even lift a leg.

The school kids off to class don't turn their heads,
And Dad who trims the hedge just walks away.

But still the mail box alone and proud,
Knows it's a fading breed and waits its turn.

This placed first in the DUP competition "Death of a.....", about an inanimate object.
