Wheel of Suffering
Blood rapids drum circles
around serrated nerves,
their stone firmaments
positioned above the water.
Thoughts shift continuum -
cracks the paradigm in half.
A funneled cavity of muscle
constricts a back-draft of breath;
the lack of expansion expels it.
The karmic lesson has returned;
The pupil stands ready to learn
bruises still fresh from the previous;
The wheel slows down for none
who seek the purity of awareness.

I love that you keep getting back up
to face it again, Crim. It's exactly what
we're meant to do.
Thank you for your response.
It's loved, as are you.

amazing wisdom Ahavati....this is my favorite so far...."the wheel slows down for none that seek the purity of awareness."...wow..and I wonder...does it slow down at all period?...because all the dark and the light have to be balanced at some point, hear and now or perhaps eons down the road...thanks for sharing a wonderful piece...struck me as very beautiful in its power to get across the beauty as well as the irony in the suffering

Thank you, Michael. I don't think it slows down,
but it can certainly speed up. There is beauty
in suffering when we become aware of its purpose.
That, to me, is the ultimate enlightenment.
Thank you for your words. They're appreciated.

yw and friend and I was just wondering on that aspect because one time someone I was close to that I considered very wise by the standards of what I had seen and he said to me your greater understanding fully of karma, the quicker it comes back to you...as if you are nearing the end of the karmic cycle..to get beyond samsara...and it made intuitive sense to me based on my own experience...again a great write...

For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required;
We all come full circle, Michael. The older you get, the faster time
turns.
Again, thank you so much.

Would you please not call my throat a funneled cavity of muscle... it's beginning to hurt and I think I'm choking. The wheel, I know it - came in a boxed set with the circle of life.
Anyway, great write even if somewhat scary... and yes, knowledge is pain; cf Book of Genesis.

I finished reading An Open Heart by the Dalai Lama the other day and in the closing chapters it talked of the Kalachakra - time cycles or wheel of time.
I was talking with someone earlier. She asked me, "How do you want your life to be? Are you happy with it at all?"
I told her, Life is suffering. As far as I can see, it is an endless cycle. I don't feel happy by the definition that comes to mind. Not in a sense of static equilibrium. I experience moments of contentment and joy that are fleeting. Overall, I don't consider happiness to be anything more than fleeting. All experiences are of value. One panel upon the wheel. The focus of life is to endure and grow. I am endeavoring to do both.
I find your poem breathtaking, profound, visceral and yet metaphysical. Such a wonderful marriage. I am not surprised that it should slide so firmly and cleanly into the pattern of lessons that are currently unfolding in my life. We are always learning, growing and life has many teachers. I consider you one such and hold you in esteem.
Kindly forgive the lengthy reply. Namaste.

I love your replies be they brief or in depth.
They're always insightful and reveal portions
of myself I had not yet glimpsed.
Thank you.

THIS is an astounding write, Ahavati, and I am grateful to have
had a chance to read your wonderful thoughts on being aware.
Being aware is all to often hidden in the background of our
mental capacity, It took me many years to understand this fact.

Thank you, standing. My father always said
that knowing was half the battle, decision the rest.
I appreciate your time and the honor of your follow.

Oooo! you snatched away all
my tiny particles of air
..busted my bubble hearts
ah, but so spot on my darling
dear love, could not have
written it clearer or more beautiful

Life is too painful to experience it purely and solely in full awareness. Beautifully well written, Ahavati, as always. I'm glad I found this hidden gem.
