A Depth of Sadness
Her mouth twists away, a depth of sadness
Can bear down on him with the weight of tides;
But, trusting she will twist back, he finds madness
In windblown hair and makes sure he decides
That he will hold her firmly as his plaything
And catch her impish glimpse as she descends;
He knows that each moment the long days bring,
When she is his possession never ends,
Until he has determined that her fate will
Be pleasant for the man who’s conquered her;
As all the single instants effervesce ‘til
He’ll recognise the sparkle and refer
Her level of resistance to the risk
That any depth of sadness makes her twist
Can bear down on him with the weight of tides;
But, trusting she will twist back, he finds madness
In windblown hair and makes sure he decides
That he will hold her firmly as his plaything
And catch her impish glimpse as she descends;
He knows that each moment the long days bring,
When she is his possession never ends,
Until he has determined that her fate will
Be pleasant for the man who’s conquered her;
As all the single instants effervesce ‘til
He’ll recognise the sparkle and refer
Her level of resistance to the risk
That any depth of sadness makes her twist
