Behind Unlocked Doors
Outside my door dark phantoms pretend they are alive
Haunted by rumors of lovers who never will arrive
Waiting in my room in a hotel no visitors come to
No locks on the doors to keep out the shadow of you
Now you've opened the final door overcoming your fear
Where I have wisdom to whisper into your hungry young ear
A world of mystery and adventure is outside waiting for you
There is so much to see through my window's clear view
The sun sets out there where the ocean creates the horizon
And rises each morning beyond the window your destiny lies in
Long shadows are cast when the sun hovers above the rim of the Earth
Dissipating in darkness at night and fading away under daylight's rebirth
There is so much more to explore beyond my door and empty hallway
To seek out your dreams before time becomes short and life slips away
But your search should always begin with a question unanswered within
Will you honor and love the person blooming beneath your flowering skin?
Haunted by rumors of lovers who never will arrive
Waiting in my room in a hotel no visitors come to
No locks on the doors to keep out the shadow of you

A fine piece of philisophical advice. At times it seems that you are speaking to your younger self and at times as a mentor. Could be both at the same time. Great ink Poetryman!

a multifaceted piece... makes you really think. seems like some late night thoughts thinking of past, present, and future and how they relate.
I'm horrible at giving feedback for poetry these days... excuse my lack of creativity in responses :)

You could have just left the smiley face and I would have been happy. Not everyone can get away with that...

But your search should always begin with a question unanswered within
Will you honor and love the person blooming beneath your flowering skin?
Beautiful ending. Discovery often looks distorted and not so pretty, an ugly
duckling of sorts. But, oh, when we mature from that into what we're meant
to become it's a wondrous thing indeed. Too many people give up when the
search becomes too intense. Pity, that is.

Thanks for commenting Ahavati! Very perceptive. Although intensity can also derail a persons dreams when there is a complete lack of it. ADHD and depression killed mine at a time before it was even recognized. A couple of years ago I had a doctor who told me if I have ADHD, why would it matter now? I'm retired and don't have to worry about it. I fired him.
I still have dreams and things I want to accomplish before I die. I don't need a idiot for a doctor who thinks I should just fade into the woodwork. Sometimes the world rips up old railroad tracks because they don't think any trains are still using them and it turns out there's an old choo-choo telling himself, "I think I can, I think I can..."

As long as there is breath, there is life. As long as there is life there is hope.
As long as there is hope there is Love. As long as there are idiots there is
ignorance. Glad you fired his ass and still believe. Belief is everything.

"But your search should always begin with a question unanswered within

I normally don't read others comments because....well, I don't have the time and I really don't care.... lol....

Tara, you always make me feel wonderful in your comments, and then comments on my responses to comments from other. And in your poetry as well. I wish I could duplicate you to have one all to myself. I need somebody in my world that can make me feel good in every word you breathe... thank you for always being you!
