PHOTOGRAPH: Not the only one, just this one
(My first Sonnet, about a love separated by distance)
You've gifted me so much as I have you,
A lover's words fair overwhelm'd am I.
The thought of being yours is honour due,
To lay it down my sword for heart to fly.
No longer disbelieve if this be done,
For in a life there is a path to take.
Without a touch when one will join the one,
You dreamed it so, though wary for my sake.
No other but yours I'd anticipate,
Then came today an image sent by thee.
'Twixt hand & breath my heart did palpitate,
A talisman hath risen from the sea.
To ask of more too soon might prove too vast,
To feel those arms that would enfold me fast.

Thank you, dear John... as I have also. This poem was my way of trying to put the photo I was given in a language others might understand. If only I could've posted the image of it here.

Excellent work.. I would quote, but the poem is an entity... I would have to quote it all... rather, it is now in my reading list...

Aw gosh Geoff, thank you so much. And you know, you're the one who encouraged me, by your own examples, to try a Sonnet, and what better way to break into the form at long last but in celebration of a special moment.

My appreciation, Ed, in honored thanks. And you're most welcome. The "feel" you experience is from my very self, so strongly did I feel it as I wrote. --Jade🌾

I've seen photographs like that; they were paintings and poems that had not yet been conceived.
And, actually gave birth to my first sonnet too.
Beautifully done, Jade.

Ahavati, not only do I thank you as a humble poet, but am intrigued and also anxious to see and read your premiere sonnet! (can't hide her excitement)

It was a double, actually. Traditional Shakespearean form with an extended twist. Hope you enjoy as much as I did your first.
