Leaving home their loved ones,
To protect the rights of yours.
Our soldiers pack their gear,
And head to foreign shores.

In jungle covered canopies,
Crawling in the mud.
Carrying out those wounded,
Covered in their blood.

Sleep comes so infrequently,
No hot meals every day.
Thoughts of home spring up,
Bringing tears of joy and pain.

Protect your brothers and sisters,
In a fire fight.
Ducking tracer rounds,
In the middle of the night.

No holidays or birthdays,
Not sure when they'll be home.
Sacrificing everything,
To guarantee your freedom.

Thank you vets, for all you've done,
To make this country free.
I salute you, everyone,
For saving life and liberty
