Fringe
Confused in the wind of a thousand days
that carries the muezzin's prayer,
tremulous from atop a minaret standing
against the blue of nothingness,
ending with the tracer lights of ascending dusk
in the triple digits of heat
and the smell of blood and eucalyptus,
taking in the last of my breath with the
first of your kiss, you slide into me
and the white blossoms of birds rise with its scent
from off the slow current of the Euphrates.
The adrenaline rush finds a bullet puncture
meant for a nesting crane, and dissipates,
escaping into night that never goes completely
black from the brilliance of desert fringe,
while behind closed eyes comes the intense burst
of the color tangerine, and the drone of
dragonfly wings among the date palms, and an
otherworldly hush from the spillage of cascading sand.

The language in this is actually rather lovely which made the whole thing an enjoyable read. Welcome to the DU by the way :)

these two lines are magical:
'the smell of blood and eucalyptus,'
' the drone of
'...dragonfly wings among the date palms, '
as is the backdrop of the call to prayer. great aesthetic all around. nice job.

Well hello Josh! You were visiting my newest published piece, and now you traveled to the mystic desert to read my first published piece here on DU! You really get around. And I'm so glad you like this one. Means a lot!

First piece of yours I read following Spit Roast, and as erotic poems go they could not be more different. Funny how Spit Roast is so brazenly sexual and unapologetic in its passion, and here you’re on the other extreme, exploring beautiful love making with poise and eloquence and a watercolor palette of description. For what it’s worth, I’m impressed

Re: Re. Fringe
Thank you, A., that’s most kind of you. And yes, the mood of this one also has a reverence I still maintain for the region, the struggle, and its spirituality.
This extreme, and that of the other piece, is all made of and from myself. There are readers who wonder how I have written steadily for so long, to keep creating fresh ways to express. It’s all of it of myself, tangible & intangible. But unlike many poets, I’m more completely in tune with myself.
I’m glad whenever someone ventures off the beaten path into my archives as you’re doing. Little gifts are found everywhere, not just in my recent ink.
