No Wonder She's Single
She is so exquisitely lovely, even divine
I imagined her in a castle married to Prince Charming
But then I saw a teardrop trickle down her cheek
I stopped to ask her what was the matter, if she needed help
But to my surprise she said "no, you can't help me
For I am lonely and need love, not sympathy from an old bag of bones"
And I thought, "with an attitude like that, no wonder you're alone"
I should have told her that, maybe it would have slapped her with a solid metaphor
Something about doing unto others or what goes around comes around
But hey, I'm just a bitter old bag of bones, what do I know?
Yet if she could see beyond the creepy filter covering her eyes
She could be looking into mine and discovering her Knight in fading armor
That just needs a good buffing to put a sterling gleam in her eye
The kind that shined of a diamond and happiness ever after
So instead she sits there claiming ownership on desperate loneliness
In her dark and singular world where she's barely seen one season of Spring
And I, next to her, having known so many Falls my leaves have long since gone
My tree stands alone, colorless in a field of bright colors blowing un the wind
Cold and bare are the bones of deadwood skeletons in Autumn's breeze
To blossoming saplings who lose their leaves for the very first time
We appear as scary monsters making dark shadows on their bedroom walls
Though we, like them, are shivering in the cold from wanting for so long
Were this young princess to dare to rake my leaves, she would begin to see
That her eyes have been clouded in mist and flooded from rains that helped her grow
For sunshine is just a single ingredient of life and without the thunderous storms
No tree can grow this high nor display its diamond rings to catch a lovers eye
So stop looking at my ancient roots so deeply planted underground
See the grandness glowing in my heart and build a tree house here with me
