I went to her out of curiosity, in the beginning, wanting
to unravel her. there was abandon in her poetry that
beguiled my restless eyes; a lyrical oasis where I could
drink. she may have been the first unsure flame in a
great fire. & I wanted to burn.
the voice of her erotica spoke to me before I ever
approached her. she was brazenly explicit in her sexual
confrontations; bondage & punishment, I decided, were
remnants of her unkind past. she was floating in the airs
of despondency, & her invitation was a somber dare:
‘it’s time for you to catch me.’
so I reached, arrogantly, into the mystery of her. I’ve danced
away many nights with whores, & I knew what the payoff was.
they gave me what they intended to give, & I was always grateful.
but outwardly (if it’s possible) & inwardly, she was no whore.
my road’s been long & winding, & I’ve drifted more than settled.
but it comes to a man in time, to give in to a woman. & to love.
he came to me hungering, like a wolf with soft lips & music. he
sought of the origins of my poetic passions. I relented to his
unsophisticated charms, I suppose, & I told him some things,
which I will not repeat. in this manner, we developed a kindling
fire of attraction.
in a matter of merely days, he is offering me words of deep
affection. that word ‘love,’ that men speak loosely to trap a lady,
without having studied it longly of a night. for men know not of
the rampart of love, whereas women are born with such knowledge.
his manner being convivial, & not at all obtrusive, I relinquished to
his embrace & kiss. his caresses tingled upon my skin like the salts
in my bath, as I have not felt so many times in my yearning years.
there is torture inside me that needs be expelled by his caring & his
carnal intent, as I have the desires of any woman who has dreamed
too much, alone.
but if he tries to drag me from my dark cloister,
I won’t go...
