hard kiss

‘Kiss me hard before you go.’  Lana Del Rey

don’t wanna be cool. wanna burn!

wake me up with your warm mouth, baby, before the storm
breaks. black coffee & ten minutes of love are all I can
afford. you can write your number in lipstick on the windshield,
‘cause the rain will wash it away.

hold onto your heart, I’ll only lose it or hock it for gas. the road
goes somewhere that I haven’t been yet, & maybe I’ll hitch up
to a wayward wind & never stop. but if I circle back here one day
I’ll remember your face & your front door.

I know there’s no romance in the desert & the stars are never
as pretty as a lover’s eyes, but if I ever slept twice with a
woman, I’d feel like I died & went to marriage.

even so, a man wants for a nearness in that great lonesome
cathedral of highway & sky… moody nights when it’s only me &
Lana, singing her poetry. & I know how it was for her, years of
endless touring, motel rooms & honky-tonks, when she didn’t know
she was good. gone so long you forget you ever had a home.

the road ends somewhere, & I reckon the stars in that part of the
sky will tell me it’s time to lay down my load. I’ll hope the devil is
a woman, & she can drag me to hell with her forever lies
& one last, hard kiss…
