We Am Superman

Every-am is Superman
though too many souls
embrace the pretty green stones
that hold us back and keep us down
while the hero within
plugs both ears to their cries
dons led-lensed glasses to hide
from the secret inner identity
that refuses to see how easily
the spirit can rise
above foolish pride
with outstretched arms
wielding unclenched fists
holding palms reaching out
on their darkest superstar day
everywhere are real heroes
in schools where they teach
on ladders dousing fires
in ally's stopping robbers
and homes raising up children
so put down the baubles of fool's green
don't envy lovers of exterior things
release your heart from the bars your fears provide
and arrest instead the villain lurking inside
