Cytotoxic .
Stares us, in the eyes
holds
pupils to pupils
iris to iris
in it's depth
it trembles
Death fears us
In moments, during the years
we walk
earth
we forget
We tremble
we forget
Death fears us
Tasting Mercury
cleaning the hairbrush
vomiting
the life
into
ceramic bowls
Holding
on tight
Knowing
Death fears us

This is going to sound weird, but I had to endure watching the new Terminator movie at the movies yesterday (not my choice), so this kind of apocalyptic wasteland image where everybody is fighting for their lives is kinda fresh in my mind, heh.
I'll confess, I had to look up 'cytotoxic' - meaning 'having a destructive action on cells'. Then I tried to place it in the poem as a theme, and I have to say the images used here work very well as a continuous theme. This reminds me very much of the Bukowski quote: "We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
I'm particularly fond of the deep stare you've got going on at the beginning of the poem. That draws you in immediately into all of the words that follow. That was quite clever actually.
Thank you for the read / chew over.

Oh Goodness "Terminator"... Ouch!
So yes the Royal Googleness is correct - 'having a destructive action on cells' But then you see that is what Chemotherapy, Radiation and many other Cancer killing drugs are / do / have in em. The problem with them cell fighting drugs and therapies is yes... we get sick (violently in some cases) and we loose our hair and well everything tastes metallic or like mercury in the case of Leukaemia...
So then the question is do the sells fear death or is death feared by cells?
You know I love that Chuck Buck quote and hadn't realised how close it is until you put it there... Might edit some... so the wrong idea is not got!
I'm glad the opening line is striking for you, I was trying to do that.
Thank you for the very thoughtful comment and visit milady -x-

this is written in the true sense of poetic with structure and some type of distinguished sense of how to be proper...
no filler or extra words to connect stanzas.
has a certain purity.
whatever that is you do it well and i dig it mr plint.
