Year You Were Born.

 
 
It's a Wonder
 
 
 
Well he certainly didn't belt out  
"You are the sunshine of my life  
That's why I'll always be around,  
You are the apple of my eye,  
Forever you'll stay in my heart"  
Instead he turned his wheels into  
a scrap heap and spent 4 days  
not knowing his name was Stevie  
or for that matter that on that  
day in nineteen seventy three  
the USSR launched Mars 7.  
 
He wouldn't have known while  
they fought his coma that  
Jack Nicklaus shot a 277 at  
Canterbury Cleve in the 55th PGA  
or that Henry McCullough hung his  
guitar and gave up his Wings.  
 
He wouldn't have known that  
Zambia adopted it's constitution  
or that David Eisenhower  
wrote his last sports column  
he probably guessed that Deep Purple's  
"Smoke on the Water" went gold  
 
But I'm sure as heck  
even if he was back with the  
world just four sleeps later;  
he hasn't figured yet  
that this poet Alistair Plint's  
mother and father wept  
Parents do that as they  
hold their first child.
