High Performance
All five liters, very 8
The Mustang's out to play
First gear, it's alright
Second gear, tough luck
Non-existent for all intents
Syncro blown to hell
So bypass surge indicated
Third gear, hold me tight
A leap forward off the reins
Then four and five leveling off
Cruising speed at last
Steady as she goes
Terminal velocity down the road
Late night green lights
All the way to the pier
Just a few more neon miles
Then never late again.

I love this. An adventure read. Go tear it up! The streets are yours to be had.

I'm afraid my driving's on hold for the foreseeable future. Might be just as well. But I loved being behind the wheel and still dream about it. And I still miss that Mustang.

It's like that scene in "It Happened One Night." I'd pick you up in a flash, Shadoe. No questions asked, no quarter given.

Poems about cars, the only thing that comes close to my enjoyment of erotica.
I love the vibe you have caught in this poem Crowfly - sounds like some blowing out of cobwebs and I love the little hint at the mechanical glitch.
Nothing is perfect, but in many ways it is those little quirks that draw us to these machines.

Hahaha, you can upshift past the dead one and read the tach close enough to know when the car responds the way it can, and not the way it was originally designed to.
Fingerspitzengefühl comrade, in mechanics and on the pad. It's the obstacles that make us masters. Remember your savage reverie. Regardless of whether you can hold the wheel in your hands these days, that rush and state is still in your blood, man. Don't ever come down from it!

This is a great comment, Loki. Right on about the shifting. I could actually do without second for most of the life of the car. "The obstacles make us masters." Thanks my friend.
