A Start Somewhere
Sometimes they come back again
But sometimes never will
She hasn't forgotten this humble start
A day shoot in the Donovans' back yard
That nag of a free lancer and all his questions
How she felt appearing in horror flick spawn
Teenage Terror Part Two
Lame low budget excuse for gore
Destined for a straight-to-DVD demise
But maybe a few bucks overseas
Meanwhile that arrogant hack director
His dictatorial rule bringing whispers of rebellion
But not from her
She's already a professional
Honing her talent
Waiting to become
A Million Dollar Baby.
But sometimes never will

A day shoot in the Donovans' back yard
That nag of a free lancer and all his questions
How she felt appearing in horror flick spawn

No, it doesn't come over night. So many stars have come from very modest beginnings. Jack Nicholson started off with "Cry Baby Killer." Martin Scorcese began with "Boxcar Bertha." And Hilary Swank got her toes wet with "Sometimes They Come Back Again" and a couple of other turkeys. It was an education.

There's a certain amount of luck involved, but it's dedication that makes the difference. That and talent, of course. And dreams!

nice, it's a lot of work & commitment, even in B-movies. hope she's got the stuff for the long haul...

This is a FANTASTIC write. I wonder if I read it a little differently, knowing what this is about already, but this is truly a smart poem, Crow. And btw, I think Hilary Swank is unbelievably talented and beautiful. She's one of the greats.

Thanks Virginia. She's both talented and beautiful. But then she's got that goofy smile, which humanizes her. Fortunately she now has better options than "Sometimes They Come Back Again and Again."

The journeys told in the Horror Industry are as epic as their fiction. I've always found it important to remember the details others pass of as trivial. It's in those nuances that real stories are born. Thanks for keeping the real alive in this release, comrade crowfly!
