Image for the poem My War-Hero.

My War-Hero.

He said he'd seen it all,
my lover, as he returns from war--
to put his bags at my door.
He holds me
and simply breaks.

I've never seen such zombie eyes,
my lover, he stares at me; vacantly.
How can I return him to what he should be?
The man who watched me
truly break.

For weeks on end,
my lover, had no idea
as I lived on this soundless fear
and overdramatic longing.

He leaves again,
my lover, picks his bags up from my door.
He leaves again to fight not only war
but beat the internal cross he bears, that is tearing,
my strange obsession with this eternal longing.
In my overdramatic way, I'll stay
sat so vacantly
by the world news and unbearably cry
on the day it's my lovers turn to die.

The horn is squeezed,
the soldier lowered
and with a loaded gun and a pack of cigarettes
this hot-blooded lover fades away...
