The Mentor

So many times in life kids look up to you
stressing you; making you
Feel like you gotta be somebody cool
cause the true you ain't no fool.
Kids don't want no average Joe,
and you don't want to be a shadow.
So you make up stories and lies,
your true self you must disguise,
using sex and drugs to advertise.
Being like this fake you they fantasize!

You blame it on your broken home,
writhing in pain about being alone.
Giving them a way to never be apart
a solution to heal their broken heart,
Their sex and drug abuse you jumpstart.
you speak of 'family', go join a gang,
Talk about protection, guns that go bang.
instilling these needs at a young age,
Creating in them hostility and rage.
You brag of the high you feel from dope,
keeping hidden your inability to cope.

Deep down inside they fear what they don't know,
the effect of the drugs and how they show.
But you make it sound required, although.
you yourself have never touched the stuff,
not even as much as took one puff.
No pills, no crack, no eight ball,
no speed, no acid; you'll never feel the fall.
Where are you when they hallucinate?
not around then to elucidate,
remember it's you they want to duplicate!
Now that their use has consumed them,
you’re not around when they go into hysterics.
Nor to see the mayhem,
that was caused by your misguided lyrics.
