Read the Fine Print
Taking a few minutes to look back at how I was raised,
it was less about doing right & more about being praised.
As long as the outside was clean, sharp, and right,
nobody questioned you, no fuss, no fight!
So I manipulated the system, and learn to wear a mask,
outwardly being what they wanted, doing what they ask.
Learning to hide the darkness that was really under this disguise,
I fooled many by crossing my t's & dotting my i's.
I memorized the verses so I could talk the talk!
Don't swear, say the Lord's prayer.

Lessons from the Past
I used to say and believe, "It is what it is."
I realize that phrase makes me reminisce.
Listen to me say, "No worries. It's all good."
As if I'm gangster, or I grew up in the hood.
I often wonder if these statements are true
making us have no control over what we do.
We throw our ambitions to the wind
in hopes that the bad ones we can rescind.
We then become victims of circumstance
not thinking about the ending consequence.
So I like to write raps and rhyme,
Does it really require a life of crime?

A Bright Future
Your future is not determined by your past
it's up to you how long the guilt will last.
Bury the past, but don't forget the lessons!
It's okay to forgive yourself of indiscretions.
Looking back on my life suddenly I realize,
that the "Big Picture" I didn't always analyse.
Mostly living in that moment in time,
even going as far as committing crime.
I was taught to be truthful, but I usually lied
my whole life I schemed and connived.
Only looking out for myself, number one,
just seeking a lifetime of thrills and fun.

When the Step back...
Our world is so full of hostility there's no quiet
so many people angry and loud such riot
everyone seems to fight cheat and bicker
almost like you spilled their last drop of liquor.
You're not drunk enough to feel good just lonely
You reek of vomit and sweat you're just so damn homely
Now you would give anything to have a friend
But with your addiction so many people you offend.
Sitting there all by yourself so alone and still
realizing that without your chemicals you're so very ill
but no matter how hard you try you can't ...

Addiction's Pathway
Let's me start out by saying this all takes time,
Many triggers may cause us into a rapid life of crime.
Breaking down the power that addiction has over us,
We must disassemble the items that we trust!
Russian Roulette! Oh, what a sick and twisted game,

The Calm after the Storm
I am big and powerful, one bad mister.
I’m often referred to as 'A Twister'.
As the warm day air no longer divides
itself from the cold atmosphere but collides.
Spinning and spinning around I go,
putting on a very wicked show,
sometimes even making hail to form.
The disaster of a major thunderstorm.
The sky turns all dark and green,
wind dies for seconds, all seems serene.
God is with you not against!
Hard to believe as the storm is commenced.
He wants to see your success,
because of the storm now he can bless.

My Walk through the Woods
Walking thought the dark woods,
I saw a little girl in a red hood,
Wondering what her name is,
So now we starts the quiz!
Is your name Jenny, Suzie or Mary,
How about Liz, Samantha, or Carrie,
Maybe its Marie, Gracie, or Mandy,
I think I figured it out its Sandy
The girl smiles and face shines,
Eyes sparkle in the sunshine.
Friendly and kind hearted,
It was that day out souls parted!
Fast forward 30+ years near coal city,
I met a lady that was oh so pretty
There was a connection I've known before,

Buick Skylark
So looking back at my first car
seeing it you'd think "it won't get you far."
A nineteen eighty-two Buick Skylark
by looks it came from the trailer park.
The sunroof leaked and the seats all torn,
just for fun I put in a 1923 Ford Model T horn.
Driving around the downtown square while kids gather around,
They say "Look mom that car's horn makes an Aaoogha sound."
Inside was premium sound, four new six by nine speakers and 400 watt amp,
the new fifteen inch subs hit like the kick drum at band camp. ...

My Day
5:09 on a Thursday morning in June,
with a desire to evict the demons soon.
A few hours later seeing Kelly 10:45,
knowing honesty my only vehicle to drive.
With confessing lips and heavy heart,
Seeing I've failed at this from the start.
Telling half truths some would say lies,
Making myself seem better with alibis!
Never stating my true heart's feeling,
worries of being admitted for healing.
Knowing deep inside I have a disorder,
But that truth protected by a warder.
Not sure what will come at 1:15,
Can't hold back need to come clean....

Mind over matter.....
I’ve heard, even said 'mind over matter,
If you don't mind it don't matter.'
But I think its matter over mind,
Cause if I truly matter you would be kind.
Unless I don't matter, then it’s your mind.
That has the problem, not mine....
So the mind is so fragile and complex,
Everyone want to believe its simplex!
Many struggle not knowing who they are,
They fight a feeling of being bizarre.
Told they have a disease, an illness;
but never able to find the stillness.
They think they’re an outcast;
Never picked first always last.
Hard to know if...

The Power Struggle
Over a year ago I entered rehabilitation to detox,
Realizing that my life had become unorthodox!
Seeing the flaw with the saying, 'same shit different day'
Gaining a new respect for myself along the way.
Understanding that we can't change us,
Only by the power of one greater than us!
Cruising along my merry way,
hey, I've been clean and sober 8 months today.
Believing that I'm doing just fine,
My toes seem to keep finding the line!
Walkin into work thinkin nothing new,
But in walks a man who under his nose has residue.
Thinking maybe...
