The Ivory Tower
Slick black vines
crest upon the lip
of the ivory tower
slithering in
from the lowest bottom
snakes with fangs
full of venom
drench papered roses
cracking foundation
with thorn and thistle
catching coloured fabrics
floating on a breeze
Raising arms
battlements steady
taut the archers string
await commandeer call
to clear-cut the subterfuge
laying waste at feet of soldiers

drench papered roses

Very nice lines Soul painting an imminent ferocious battle against the archers; goes well with the image as well!
(What a coincidence...I just wrote a poem about the silent witness to the civil war after I went to Gettysburg battlefields yesterday.)

You're welcome Soul...
Harper's Ferry is about half an hour from where I live in Frederick and Gettysburg is about 45 minutes drive...you can see posting of Gettysburg pics in my FB acct. I don't know why I can't post an image in my poems anymore, except in comps.

The Ivory Towers of this world are tumbling already and from within. The link to the civil war makes this poem interesting. I think we may be on the virge of a civil war between the haves and the have-nots. Finally for reasons I cannot understand, I have had an interest in the Civil war and visted the battlefields. I live in a subdivision with street names like Appomatox, Fredricksburg, Antietam.....
Your poem is brilliant in both breadth and depth

I concur it does seem to be heading that way fast!!!
Neat :) I had a deep distaste for it myself for years...loved the key points of it...but not the nuts n bolts so to speak...it was crammed down our throats here from elementary(im near Antietam)...didn't help my Father was a Civil War buff hahahaha Now like You I can openly embrace it...the knowledge with interest.
You are very kind kitty-Thank You :)
If You are up this way again for such a jaunt...look for Harpers Ferry...it is well preserved and in the summer months people wear period dress do tours and such...many little hometown shops open for baked goods and old time candy...much happened there ...if You don't know of it already search it--interesting part of the War
