Image for the poem The Ivory Tower

The Ivory Tower

Slick black vines
crest upon the lip
of the ivory tower
slithering in
from the lowest bottom
snakes with fangs
full of venom
drench papered roses
cracking foundation
with thorn and thistle
catching coloured fabrics
floating on a breeze

Raising arms
battlements steady
taut the archers string
await commandeer call
to clear-cut the subterfuge
laying waste at feet of soldiers
