Great heart;
Worthy;

Your smile innocent as a newborn,
Dangerous as wild fire;
Your confidence as solid as the night,
Your hopes as numerous as
The lanterns of the starry sky;
You do not seek,
In strength, to rival men;
You do not seek,
In splendour, to outmatch women;
Beautiful lover,
Dawn of my joy,

Drink
I spend these waning nights
Bent over the bar
Barely sipping whatever brew
They cast to such a castaway;
I crave the scent of lilacs
Free and wild
Along your shoulders;
I hoist the tankard
Or whatever meager vessel
Bears the troubled tides
Of my regret;
I drink
And I drink
And I drink
Unable to wash your memory
From my ugly mind,
Unable to forget the touch
Of your satin skin,
Unable to trust myself
To the perils of love,
Again;
So I spend these waning nights ...
