My brotha's, you are NOT our enemy...
you are the strength of our weakness.
you are the sun behind our smile.
you are the sweetness during our bitter times.
My brotha's, you are NOT our enemy...
you are our warmth in a cold world.
you are our love in the midst of so much hatred.

you are water during our emotional drought.
you are our leader's in darkness.
you are our solid foundation surrounded by

YOUR SHIRT AND TIE
I awaken from a blissful dream of you holding me and kissing
me the way you did back then.
I close my eyes hoping to re-dream that dream so I can feel you
once again.
Reality killed all desires of my momentary care when I noticed
all that was left of you… your shirt and tie; lay neatly across
the chair.
The You I feel in love with so long ago have suddenly gone away;
I miss him all the time. Truth provoked a devastating fact of a
love played only in my mind.
I can still smell your masculine scent – Polo Blue so prevalent in
our room. This morning...
me the way you did back then.

LOVE, HATE, AND PRIDE
Why do we stay after he hurt us?
Because Love won’t let us leave…
Love makes us stay; Love believes
he will change.
But after too many emotional upper
cuts, Love turns into Hate…
Hate says to get even, hurt him back!
Bring him to his knees the way he
brought us to our knees!
Make him feel what it’s like to scurry
into a dark corner in fetal position
afraid to EVER love again!
Make him cry a sea the way we cried a
river!
After rational thinking take the place of
hatred, then comes Pride…
Pride says to walk away...
Because Love won’t let us leave…

As I glanced around me at the men in the room
all I could see was my impending doom!
Some approached with the same tired ass line.
They stimulated my gag reflex…not my mind.
If only they knew how to get real women like
me, perhaps they would learn to approach us
differently.
You see boo, “Real Women” need “Real Talk”
excite all my senses. Show me that you’re not
just one dimension.
Stroke my mind, caress my soul. Share with me
your aspirations, tell me about your goals.

When I was younger I never thought I'd leave
but, I had to get up, get out and follow my
dream.
I know it's scary to see your baby boy out
on his own. Don't worry mama I'ma make it,
you raised me to be strong!
You nurished my mind and worked on my heart,
it's your blood in my veins so not even death
could break us apart!
You disciplined me to always handle business.
I hope you're not proud of me yet mama, I'm
not even finished!
I came a long way but I got so far to go.
So I hurdle over my goals like bars set low....
