Martyrs for the disease
Mommy hears the angels talking in her head,
Gets so high she can't get out of bed,
Sometimes it's like she's not even there,
Reality is just too much for her to bear,
She's just another martyr for the disease,
I'd like to think I'm different,
That I am free,
But as the years go by,
I start to see,
Nobody's immune,
Not even me,
Daddy started drinking again,
Took out his gun,
And said lets play pretend,
I learned not to ask any questions,
Since that time that he taught me a lesson,
He's just another martyr...

Legacy of pain
Woah father,
Won't you break these chains from 'round my feet,
I' been walkin',
Walkin' up and down these dusty streets,
I've grown weary,
Weary from this ball and chain,
Can't you hear me father,
Can't you hear me callin' out your name,
Woah mother,
Won't you teach me to forgive,
Teach me to forgive your sins and the wicked life you've lived,
I' been tryin',
Tryin' to break free,
But oh mother,
Your lies just won't let me be,
Woah brothers,
Won't you help me lay this burden down,
Won't you help...
Won't you break these chains from 'round my feet,

Springs eternal symphony
Morning sun lays over me,
A warm shroud of healing,
The darkness finally lifted to unfurl bright buds of spring,
Branches gently dance casting shadows as they sway,
Nature's song a symphony that every creature plays,
Amongst the green grass Robins chirp and call,
Reminding me that life continues turning in a circle,
Yesterday's heartbreaks replaced by hopeful beginnings,
The pain of doubt is lifted by the golden light of heaven,
Breathing down on me a sigh of forgiveness,
Stirring my heart to yield seeds of happiness,
I scarcely...

Drowning in my mistakes
Don't try telling me what to do,
Don't try asking me to calm down,
I know the problem isn't you,
I'm feeling like I'm about to drown,
Don't pitty me for crying,
Don't tell me to be strong,
Because my only hope is of dying,
Even if I know it's wrong,
Every horrible word I spoke,
That spilled out of my mouth like venom,
Now stings with burning guilt,
Like embers smoldering beneath the smoke,
Fighting until I'm numb,
Inescapably trapped in the gritty silt,
Terrorizing myself,
Staining myself,
With unwashable...

The Selfish Tree
In a forest clearing stands alone,
A dying tree,
Her branches twisted from the years of winds that've blown,
Gnarled and deformed in misery,
She reaches out for sympathy,
Her leaves have all fallen to the ground before her,
Sacrificing themselves to feed her soil,
And self pitying she weeps,
For the days long gone and the memories she keeps,
Her long life drawing near it's end,
She recalls the way she used to bend,
When she was a sapling thin and green,
Dancing in the sunlight,
And all the years in between,
Greedily...

Children of a mad woman
We are the children of a mad woman,
just look at what we've become,
we drink and smoke and say we don't care,
we try so hard to run away from our pasts,
but there is still so much anger there,
the anger is the only thing that lasts,
the damage done and the price it cost,
the broken dreams and the innocence lost,
we all had to go our separate ways,
to live to fight another day,
she couldn't even see us through school,
and now she acts like she never knew,
she plays the victim for everyone,
If they only knew what she'd really...

High in his Tower
There's a line being drawn,
Talk of a wall being built,
This country is at the dawn,
Of an era of guilt,
So much has gone wrong,
So much hatred still,
As we sift through ashes and silt,
Of a history of blood that was spilt,
Wars that were fought for men on a hill,
Collecting their pensions,
While the media displays all the tensions,
And we drink it up,
Like poisoned milk from a cup,
We've become drunk on the thrill,
Of prideful division,
Sacred lands being drilled,
But we dare not question their decisions, ...

In this turnabout world
Well here I am,
I've come a long way,
I ain't got no money,
but that's ok,
looked for work just the other day,
but the man shook his head and walked away,
sometimes it gets me down,
makes me frown,
leaves me wondering why the hell I stay in this town,
when I ain't got no hope,
and I feel like my mind is dangling from a fraying rope,
well I asked for a blessing from the pope,
to marry my true love,
but he answered nope,
there's too many laws across the lands,
and the politician's...

The image in the mirror
Staring at the image in the mirror, reflecting on the face,
wondering what became of the girl who fell from grace,
now the memories come clearer,
in the patches of sunlight casting, shadows of darkness everlasting,
her words of courage left unspoken,
by regrets she was haunted,
still unbroken,she was taunted,
for her kindness towards her foes,
believing love could cure all woes,
a foolish child left alone,
when she had come so far from home,
pushed down into the depths of sorrow, letting go the hope of tomorrow,

Starlight
Come with me while the starlight is still burning,
embrace the pain of life and learning,
it's never too late to take back your power,
and so we must forge on with every waking hour,
to try and grasp at something bigger,
something stronger than all our man made machines and worthless endeavors,
we are beings through which life streams,
but our world is not forever.

Fright or flght
Just last night I dreamed I was flying over a valley,
souring upstream, my beautiful wings stretched out before me,
free and powerful in a way I cannot be in waking hour,
suddenly I felt treachery surround,
though unseen this force I sensed all around,
panic grasped me as I tried to fly away,
my powers diminished to my dismay,
causing fractures in my concentration,
fighting the fear of levitation,
my body burning with adrenaline,
only to wake up in my bed again.

Two black tears
Two black tears fall down,
Gently down,
I hear them echo as the fall,
The sound shatters through this realm,
Tearing a hole in reality,
A hooded figure comes forth from hell,
Shrouded in death like garb,
Commanding fear with complete totality,
In his hand an unearthly barb,
Sharp and twisted,
So shiny the gleam,
I opened my mouth, but dared not scream,
For his presence brought both terror and relief,
