FAITH
IS:
an ability to believe in things yet to be seen
the gift of imagining what is possible
and the fortitude to overlook the improbable
the cornerstone of the human spirit
and the eternal flame of our souls

Deja Vu
It appears that the some ghosts of 1968
have come back to procreate
KKK marches, Campus unrest, millions in the streets in protests
it all brings back old memories I must confess
Another close American Pres. election where the Neo Fascist candidate won
leaves me with a feeling like a bitter Chicago winter with weeks with no sun
I don't know about you
but, for me it is all Deja Vu

Final Battle*
Final Battle*
I have worn many hats and played many parts
and made numerous costume changes in my various roles
Sadly, first hand one day I will know "for whom the bell tolls"
until then I will cherish the good in a bad day if I have any smarts
In this lifetime, I have learn a few things
like the fact all 7 billion of us are flawed human beings
And when my back is against the wall
my best move is to drop my knees and pray to stand tall
that the written words of fools and sages
both begin on...

Trump's speeches are half Hitler and the other half Mussolini
his mind is as soft as over cooked linguine
His brain is working at less than 2/3rds
and at every campaign stop he slurs his words
He espouses conspiracy theories about things that are untoward
this poor man belongs on a psych ward
DJT is mentally ill
and can't afford to pay his 464 million dollar bill
The MSM is dodging this issue still
and unbiased journalism is now a lost skill
Four more years of Trump and American Democracy is through ...

A Is For Anxiety
Thinking about my Sports Teams Politics and my personal life
is a never ending carnival of strife
One minute I am playing Captain Save a Hoe
next worrying about my Instacart order and if in my bank acct I have enough dough
Will it rain sleet and snow
and bc of the writers strike where the hell is my favorite tv show.
My sleeping pattern has no rhythm or rhyme
and will Trump ever be convicted of a criminal crime
The forms of my mental discontent come in a variety
I guess that is why Big Bird taught me that-A Is For Anxiety ...

Street Corner Pundit
People overlook what is right under their nose
like when the Emperor didn't have on any clothes
It took a kid to state a simple fact
While others whispered but, failed to act.
They were being blindly obedient to authority
Sadly, in this country that's the majority
"When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose"
and standing up for my people is the way I choose
The one thing I know is true
The system is out to screw me and you
While the powers that be dream of a new evil and how to fund it

Like Noble Drew Ali
I will remind my people of their spirituality
Like Muhammad Ali
I will fight even when the opponent is my own country
Like Ernie Banks when he joined his Northside club
I will show the courage that earned him the name "Mr. Cub"
Like the great Hannibal
I will defeat my adversaries when their thinking is dull
Like the warriors of Sekhmet, when I make my last stand
I will do so with my self-respect fully in hand
I will remind my people of their spirituality

A Keeper Of The Flame
It's not about "bs" or jive
I have a "sacred" duty to keep our stories alive
I follow where the tale goes
through our collective highs and lows
Like a torch bearer, my words make their rounds
to hamlets, villages cities and towns
I am driven by the work I do
in hopes to inspire the next Hughes or Angelou
My only claim to fame
is that I am a keeper of the flame
I have a "sacred" duty to keep our stories alive
I follow where the tale goes

The Other America
Blacks here live in places like N'awlins, B-more and Chiraq
where hard working people have to watch their back
Because from both the cops and criminals we are under attack
and the courts will not cut us any slack
Our country is divided by an ethic, religious or political wall
in order to survive my people climb mts. that are Everest tall
We live on a social-ecomonic isthmus
Where crimes on us by both Whites and Blacks we witness
At best, for us the glass that hold life's joy is only half full
but, least we are no longer...

Your Brother In The Struggle
We came here as his chattel
sold on auction blocks like cattle
Our women he raped and disrespected
even today they remain unprotected
They laughed, smoked, ate and drank
while bodies of hung black men rotted and stank
Now shoot us like rabies carrying dogs in the street
or take us to jail after our heads they beat
It is sad to see
that after 300 years we are only semi-free
All these things in my mind I juggle
as I remain your Brother in the struggle

When Our Stars Align
Jupiter Saturn Venus and Mars
is our fate really in the stars
They are shuffle daily like cards in a tarot deck
on a bad day we get negative cards and say what the heck
Somedays things go smoother than China silk
and we crave more like a newborn hooked on it's Mother's milk
When it comes to love baby everything will be fine
