Poetry Contest

Make your interpretation of a poem written by a fellow poet...
HOW IT WORKS:

select any of your friend's poem and post it here as a visual poem with your interpretation. (*with their permission of course)

the feel of the new visual poem must have a connection to the original poem. but it doesn't have to be in the same category.

please avoid extreme contents, erotica, sex or nudity since the winner will be published in the social media sites.

also if you can draw, sketch, design or create just the image, capturing the essence of the selected poem with a single caption is acceptable in the competition.

the entry must be an image.

and the image you post must be your own, don't post copyrighted pictures, drawings, designs., etc.

there is no entry limit per poet.

JUDGING PROCESS

this competition is a visual poem competition. what I look for is the visual image to be creative as possible.

I will select finalist according to the submissions, then ask the original poet to give points out of 10.

then whoever has the biggest number will be the winner.
(in case if there was a tie with the points, I will choose the winner from tied points and will post them in the end)

the winner will get a trophy as well as featured on the "Words on a Canvas" group and DUP Social Media pages.

HALF THE WORLD APART

I am in tomorrow
you are in yesterday
but here and now, we are together
it matters not, clock stops ticking

Moment knows no time
no respect for the sun
past goes on a blind date
with future dressed to the nines

Web is a bridge that defies quantum space
world apart, both on the same screen
native tongue, fourteen hours different
colours in contrast, speaking the same language

We touch, not the skin but we mean
with keyboards, words that we penned
image clear, message dear, even not seen
a magic, cast by the net of singular feeling

like a butterfly to a flower, kissing

-O-

A/N
Me and my good friend Nathaniel Phillips a.k.a. cloven tongues, was talking and we get to compare respective dates and time where we were and after a head-splitting genius math calculation (not by me), it turns out that I am 14 hours ahead of him. So we joked about how I am his future and he's already my past. This piece was inspired by that playful banter and penned in response to his poem titled Hourglass posted here in Dup.[/i]

Re: Image
Its an original creation wherein I blend  together and manipulated   the following images:

Three Png Image = A work of art.

Image 1 - globe divided Day/Night
Image 2 - Butterfly Represents the Man
Image 3 - Flower Represents the Woman

1. Overlay flower on the globe's dark side
2. Overlay butterfly on the globe's bright side
3. Adjust to let butterfly touch the flower
4. save
5. Reshape (extrusion, expand or shrink) adjust to your desired effect.
6. Add texture and filter according to your preference.
7. Save, you are done.

Created using Toolwhiz Application.

This poem is my take on Oxy's poem. Thank You, Oxy.

PAPERBACK PRINCE CHARMING

I fell in love, with a handsome man,
who loves another in storyland.
His looks, in illusion, I shape,
image of a man, I long to take.
He's not perfect, I read.
Exactly just what I need.
For him, I searched, all I can.
His shadow, I looked for in men

But fairytale is just a lie,
and bubbles are real in life.
Now they're here, then gone
right after they are done
Charming but no prince
Ogre' that likes to preen
who said I wanted fame
right after in me, he came?

Why can't my life be fiction?
How can I find true affection?
I'm just a girl who wants a boy,
who would treat me not as a toy.
How I wish, I'm made of ink,
scribbling words in print;
building a castle on a paper,
a story to be read, over and over.

Hi I would suggest and recomend you to use www.spark.adobe.com  you can upload your picture and add text to it there, the online app allows you to edit the text layout neatly.

You can find it in the applestore, but for android hasn't launched it yet.

any other app you are using is fine, if you are having trouble please PM me,

My interpretation of JohnnyBlaze's "Universe House".
Original photo of a sunflower field w/space overlay ( titlt-shifted ). Orton filter w/adjusted curves, tint, and manual lens flares.

If I understand correctly a caption alone is acceptable if the image reflects the essence of the poem?

also if you can draw, sketch, design or create just the image, capturing the essence of the selected poem with a single caption is acceptable in the competition.

Congratulations Ahavati!!!

I thank the poets who participated in this competition.

In this competition, I merely focused it on stretching the visual part, not the writing part...
And as I mentioned, I wanted to see a picture reflecting the selected poem, so Ahavati's submission clearly resembled it well.

hope to see you at the next competition...!
