#7 Water Nymph

t'was those restless nights..
you remember yes?
remember the silent howling
...that hawkish moon
the tossing..the turning.
the inner chambers churning..
in sweaty trepidation of

the visitors
...

your panorama of parasites..
here to commune with that dwarfish
incubus clawing beneath
agitated flesh
...

come my darkened lover..

never mind them
allow me to secret you away
submerge deep..
deep within this liquid fantasia
i have waiting
waiting just..

for
..
you
..
feet tentacles tending tediously
nursing every shadow that lurks down under
suckling 'pon the tip of phallic sentiments..
savoring every drip of thy sordidness
why the shyness now?
so unbefitting it is for one
such as yourself
...
come

come
..
drown the conundrum that is you
into my oblivion
too long have you lingered
at my event horizon
live...unafraid
be..forever unrepentant..
for i have asphyxiated your peering jury.
fear their unjust fury
never again
..
never again
..
your nymph beckons urgently..
be my Namor..
my prince of torrid tsunamis
i am a fair mistress
after all

I freely give you allowance to
breathe in the filthiness of your conscious ilk
of those who undeservedly
warrant your affections..

but your subconscious belongs to me
every time your eyes close
I'll be there at the threshold
awaiting the fulfillment
of every promise
you dared to dream between realms

Ahh, Naajir, thank you for your erotic ink in the competition!

And of course a 2nd write is welcome, should time allow.

Hello everybody!

It's incredible, but suddenly there's only 8 hours left until this competition is at an end!

Until then, everything is still going full tilt for anyone who's fine-tuning their entry to submit, while I start to gather my notes, arrange my score card for when I list entries according to the point system I always use, and then thoughtfully reread every poem submitted, with a fresh impression.

And the biggest impression these past two weeks is how awesome the turnout has been consistently throughout, from a dynamic & talented group of members, to their eclectic poems so uniquely expressive, partnered with the chosen images from the competition's gallery!  It's an indelible impression I can't stress strongly enough.

And for me, because of this, when it's time to announce the winners, it will be easy to choose, but will be hard, as it always is, not to be able to include more in that short list.

So when I say you are all winners, as so many hosts have concluded in past competitions, including yours truly in mine, please know that I mean it from my heart.

I look forward to any last minute entries that manage to come in under the wire.  And see you all when the results are in!

Siren's Lament...

Mother, do you hear me calling?
Mother, do you see me?

I am here, your faithful daughter

Calling as you taught
Singing sweetly
Luring as you

Mother, do not leave me
You, goddess of seas
Do not you succumb

I yet believe

You and my aunts
Three thousand daughters of Titans
Your rule precedent

You gave Poseidon his strength
And, I am your daughter
Gifts from you bestowed

Washed away by disbelief
When none hear my song
You will I join

Ahhh, mother, do not you go...

#9 SELKIE

TEARS OF THE OCEAN

Standing upon a barren beach
watching waters flow from where she was born
Not shackled yet no longer free
bare human feet standing in the sands of defeat
The briny breeze frees murmuring memories
Speckles of sparkling sunlight longing
gently kissing the waves of belonging
The soft silken skin of her true form
taken and torn and no longer worn
Only the salty tears of her sorrow
can return to the salt of the endless sea
blended forever with the ocean's majesty
but never again shall she

"I have always known
that I belonged to the sea,
may now it belong to me"
...from AEMelia564's entry "Hold me tight"

Gentle folk of the sea, welcome, and thank you for joining with me here as I prepare to announce the results of this competition, "The Magic of Merfolk, Sirens & Water Nymphs", which is now at its conclusion.  I thank the following who participated, with the total of submissions received:

21 Entrants = 28 Entries
AEMelia564, archetype23, calamitygin, dejure, Duende, eswaller,
Forgotten_Mom71, goldenmyst, Grace, Hepcat61, JohnFeddeler, Leashing_Static, MadameLavender, Naajir, Nova_north, OxyMoronicMe, poetryaccident, rowantree, Savaja, Vee (Rina), & WillowsWhimsies.

"to alight upon enchantment
an island of laconic romance
that hovers far away
from every known thing"
...from JohnFeddeler's entry "fall for a poet"

"I gaze at her and I cry
for I'm a daughter of the water
and she rules in the sky"
...from WillowsWhimsies' entry "Lunar Lament"

There are so many offerings that you gifted that, mixed together, would make a wonderful tome to contain everything that the land dwelling humans could wish to know about us:

"Here I know no pain
but live a life, to laugh and love
be alive and well in dreams
be it more joyous than above
or less coloured in wistful wishes..."
...from Grace's entry "Dream dance a Drowning"

So many of them envy our ways, even though they are yet able to understand what we are like, and what it is all about:

"drowned in Neptune's land/ to the clinking applause of
calcified shells like/ bones of a smirking/ Voodoo Queen, saying
"I have you now..."
...from MadameLavender's entry "Drowning"

"...it’s pure as fountains… enriching/ as mineral springs on lands above/
because of a storm.. .we were/ brought to the mystical shores of
each other's swaying tails..."
...from Leashing_Static's entry "Mystic Shores"

"...I was convinced time had slaughtered
any mirage of childhood I had left...
but you and your gills still believe in the seasons,
and they could forever...
...from rowantree's entry "Gills"

"I swim blindly grasping/ flickering spark
your love; my refuge in the dark
seeking solace in solitary tomb/ overgrown weeds
oscilitate like lullabye..."
...from Vee (Rina)'s entry "Love Is A Loosing Game"

And so now, before the tide withdraws, here without further ado are the results, with my congratulations!:

1st place: eswaller, with her entry, a beautiful lament "siren"!
(excerpt: "She is a skillful wordsmith
With every haunting song and lyric that
Comes out of her. She is beyond a myth..."

2nd place: Hepcat61, with his nautical, sea-faring sonnet "Seamen's Ode to a Water Nymph"!
(excerpt:
"No comfort found in spreading sea birds’ wings
For wings canna’ be found to ease our sight
I long the moan’ful cries and grateful sings
As prow borne figurehead pursues their flight..."

3rd place: Naajir, with his erotic entry "Water Nymph"!
(excerpt: "...every time your eyes close
I'll be there at the threshold
awaiting the fulfillment
of every promise
you dared to dream between realms."

Honorable Mention: Forgotten_Mom71, with her entry of the lesser known but beguiling and hypnotic selkie "Maighdeann Mhara"!
(excerpt: "The last vision of my life/ was a woman of beauty with/ a..glorious fin/
Changing her features/ to a lady ..yet a seal/ the farther...the decent"

Honorable Mention: goldenmyst, with his entry filled with colorful, animated imagery "Sea Dreamer"!
(excerpt:
"Wine dark waters foam in crests
Spraying lash hooded aqua-woman
Whose black tresses shimmer in twilight red
My mind surfaces like a dolphin..."

I'll see you again soon,
thank you one & all -
always
Jade

"You gave Poseidon his strength
And, I am your daughter..."
...from Savaja's entry "Siren's Lament"

"Islanders can hear her songs as they too
must be lead..."
...from Leashing_Static's entry "In The Heart of the Sea"

and though the competition is over my second entry finally showed me what it wanted to be...
Apparently it wanted to be a pantoum...

ST. MARY'S LIGHT

Alone he kept St. Mary’s Island Light,
His one true love away these many years.
The grave remains on Mary’s craggy height
Where Fresnel beams allay yon sailors’ fears.

His one true love away these many years.
Now all he’s left his long love of the deep,
Where Fresnel beams ally yon sailors’ fears,
To tend his light and heart on Mary’s keep.

Now all he’s left his long love of the deep.
His oil, his glass, his soul that longs for her,
To tend his light and heart on Mary’s keep,
When on the day did Neptune’s fate proffer.

His oil, his glass, his soul that longs for her,
Her face on fishly form upon the beach,
When on the day did Neptune’s fate proffer,
Her voice of waves and sea birds’ songs beseech.

Her face on fishly form upon the beach,
“Long have I sought you, holder of my heart,”
Her voice of waves and sea birds' songs beseech,
“Come join me that we never be apart.”

“Long have I sought you, holder of my heart,”
Her song a dream far from his earthly fate,
"Come join me that we never be apart,"
With her he swam that loneliness abate.

Her song a dream far from his earthly fate,
Alone he kept St. Mary’s Island light.
With her he swam that loneliness abate,
The grave remains on Mary’s craggy height.
