One Day At A Time

poet Anonymous

Poetry Contest

Any style piece using the given prompt

Seems Carpe-Noctem and myself enjoyed the added stress of the last competition, so we
decided to hold another and give someone else a trophy!  ;)

The prompt is "One day at a time", however that phrase resonates with you.

Must be a new write and your own work
All are welcomed to participate, one week only.

Please refrain from commenting here on the entries until the competition ends,
you could PM the author or just wait until the comp ends.

Be creative , no expectations for how the write should go...

Thanks to everyone in advance

One Day At A Time   (Angie)

Epochs are like a
trapped pain
locked into hiding.
unable to be faced
romany.,curious
are the crawlings of my mind
imagination
runs through nations
of an ancient , declined time
do you recall the July skies
yes we were small
each one a child
but now it's all
a memory in the mind
you stood out tall
to balance the picture line .

Many lunar spheres
have arched the skies
writing out the years
as age inclined
we were physically nowhere near
but trapped in time
on seeing your image, it's clear
you've kept that smile .

Do you remember
the school yard
with all the yellow lines painted
many memories
way back far
from the mid 70's , early 80's
picking with sticks
at the sun melted tar
and the teachers were dinner ladies
each day to day
since then beat a heavy heart
before my pen
could walk over the pages.

.

Thanks for your entry, Paul Summerscales
Unfortunately, it has to be a new write. The only rule.
I hope you will enter another piece.

Today's Gossip

There's no where else to go 'round here,
This small town has no use for me.

I drive in, signs read "Welcome, friend",
And leaving, read "Please come again,"
None in between all those that say
"Sorry, We're Closed", "No Openings".

But that's okay, just passing through.
I sit a spell at Mavis' cafe
To nurse and sip my cup o'Jo',
My eyes on angled cars & trucks.

You see, no one will ever know
As long as I try not to speak,
And tip the waitress fifty cents,
Though Mavis died a year last week.

Won't Look Beyond Now...

Won't look beyond now
Won't gaze at the star
Tribulations are coming
But I leave it very far

Tears will roll
Heart will break
One short stroll
Is all it will take
Even if it's futile
Will give my all
Till its tears and goodbyes
Till the end calls

That's shunning reality
To embrace a dream
With love for vanity
Held in high esteem
Till what is adored
Belongs to another
And the she-god
Denounces her lover

Not to spoil the mood
I savour today
And it's simply good
To keep it that way
Till that Art
Is no longer my own
Till my heart
Is Sorrow's throne

To pain I'm now related
Though joyous I pretend
The future unabated
Holds a shattering end
She thinks I'm not aware
She wishes she could tell
What if I'm not prepared?
What if I don't take it well?

She will play along for now
Just to save my soul
No time to feel so down
Not ignorant of her goal
Sometimes I mourn my loss
Again I gain my mind
Till its time to carry my cross
I leave the future behind

And cherish what is
My broken heart concealed
My peaceless soul in peace
In lovingness reveal
Feelings I held so dear
Feelings so warm and true
While overlooking my fears
Pretending not to have a clue

Minutes count
Breaths are taken
Pressure mounts
Foundations are shaken
She'll walk away
She'll disappear
I will look out one day
And she'll not be there

Won't look beyond now
Won't gaze at the star
Tribulations are coming
But I leave it very far

day by day

i would start
every morning
with some sort of steel javelin
shot through my chest
pinning me to the mattress.

i would be sure
the coldness
spreading around my shoulders
was blood

the numbness
in my fingers and toes

rigor mortis

when i opened my eyes
the pressure change in disappointment
crushed my lungs.

after a while
i pulled my body off the crime scene

there was no javelin
there was no pain
and yet there was.

fickle sunlight
pretending to welcome me
running to the horizon

without me,

sleep covered me
with a clammy touch.

in the morning
i would start
with a steel javelin
shot through my chest
pinning me to the mattress.

Day trippers

we prayed our minds sterile
and god granted us confines:

no eyes to look back
and no mind
to think about tomorrow

Heavy and ponderous
beating on the ground
time is marching on
try as I may
I cannot delay
the hours and minutes
that are slipping away
it will not be slowed
nor will it stay
I must live in this moment
it changes each day.
