What word makes you wince?
Please submit poems that focus on a word that you have a particular dislike of its meaning or even the way it sounds.. New or old. Limit submissions to two a person please. Good luck!
Hope
In Pandora's box was hope,
But even that is evil,
But what good is hope,
It is nothing but evil,
Hope is why we wait,
Hope brings more pain,
Hope is not great,
Hope is very cold rain,
Hope keeps us holding on to nothing,
We sit in pain for long,
We sit and wait for something,
Hope hides what is wrong,
Hope is overrated,
Hope is bad news,
Hope is hated,
Hope I want to lose

Look Here
two words for sure
the 'look here'
most time though
they sound like one
the pregnant look
the pursed lips
'look here, look here'
like a rabid attention getter
sometimes a stare
and the words spurt out
'hey look here....!'
why would I, wonder bread!
doing a wheelie on a bike
a stupid jump into a river
a traffic dash dare
they all seem to be
'look here..look here..!'
I hate the word

Wait means somebody put you on hold.
Means impatience builds up.
Waiting wastes your precious time.
Means they don't have your money yet.
Means you're raring to go but they don't want to have sex.
Waiting means dinner's not ready yet and you're hungry as hell.
Means somebody screwed up and they're trying to fix it.
Means they have something or somebody better to do.
All in all, WAIT is like a worm....it makes me squirm.

Suicide
I don't particularly
Hate the word,
Suicide.
It makes me uncomfortable
And makes me want
To scream.
I used to think
Of it all the time

I hate the term
As it represents a false
Yet many believe it firm
With the ideal of good
But the only thing that will come
Is much less
Wholesome
War and death
People fighting to the last breath
All because of a different view
On God
What does he/she/it do?
Not a damn thing
It's only you,

I just got blindsided by a kid who was texting
My airbag broke my nose and I'm spitting blood
But you ask if I'm ...
How about you stop videoing with your cell phone and call me an ambulance?

That's what they told my brother when he was first diagnosed
Just follow your pill regimen they said
Then some asshole hiked prices by 5,000%
At his funeral
Someone asked me if I was "Okay"
Why ask
If you're not prepared for the truth,
okay.

No it's not "okay"!
It's not even good

Wow! Thanks for the nod gazallemon ... This is way more than "okay" lol ... I often "fight" with my students to eliminate two words from their vocabulary ... "Okay" and "good".
