Poetry Contest

Poetry about getting away from tech.

The longest journey begins with a single step, not with a turn of the ignition key. That’s the best thing about walking, the journey itself. It doesn’t much matter whether you get where you’re going or not. You’ll get there anyway. Every good hike brings you eventually back home. Right where you started.-Edward Abbey

Write a poem about stepping into nature and away from technology.
New works only.

Step Up

I compiled an encyclopedia
of orchids
I piled up nightmares
I gave my first
step into space
I found out that there
is an "I don't know"
in certain things
that no being, ever,
will be able to decipher...

Oaken Sails and Falling Leaves

In correspondence with nature's backdrop
a step away from the land of eternal dreams
from the eye of salvation and azure blue sky
listening to the whispering chair transporting
an imagination of magical places unforgettable
of oaken sails and falling leaves breathing

Nature's Concert

The rainbow sings against the sky
its colours dazzling way up high
blessed by drizzles from above
where clouds silently reside
below the blue lake slumber
fringed by weeping willows
that slips their drooping boughs
to the water below
under this tree, I sit
feeling gentle nature at its best

Clashes of clouds way up
the warm and cold collide
frenzy come the thunderclouds
spitting ferocious lightning
and roaring thunderclaps
the azure sky then turns to grey
the sun hides it’s pretty ray
the rainbow sighs out
and nature’s orchestra begin to play
full-fledged thunderstorm

I sit under this weeping willow
witnessing nature’s glorious show
the whipping lashes of the rain
the thunderous applause from above
the lights lighting up the roiling clouds
thousand watts of flashing beams
the stage the mountains and the forests
the drum rolls and the cymbal clashes
an encore and then silence
balmy cool air takes centre stage
and the concert is over.

Ground down(on their grindstone)

After a long day of reports and emails
it's always funny how freedom smells.
After stepping out of my gilded cage
in front of a screen that fills me with rage
I can't help but to rejoice and be glad
for every sunset I've ever had.
It's odd that the old one's may be right
but nothing compares to nature and her light.
As I walk to my car,
looking into the sky's watercolored stars,
I can't help but to wonder,
if this is the cure for the spell I'm under.
Maybe I'll find out before youth has faded
what the open world has separated
from us in this unending material race
and those who enjoy the wind on their face.

Cave Art...

In Hallowed Halls great art is shown
not bronze, silver, nor Pharaohs' thrones,
these artists dead, en-fossiléd grave,
our ancestors, the stone-age brave,
who left their art on humble stone.

Great Auk, Mammoth, in ancient tones,
arrows loosed, stones, spears, soon are thrown
full caught here, 'cept for their death groans,
in Hallowed Halls.

Hooked-horned Aurochs, the dappled roan,
for fifty-thousand years have roamed
the dusty walls of these old naves,
their temples then, their art engraved,
our seed to art that they have sown
In Hallowed Halls?

Floating in a state of pure serenity

The waves flow onto the sands of the beach,
The breeze make the leaves dance on the trees.
I feel the water rise over my feet
As I make my way into my favorite place
I feel the current move past my legs,
Pulling slightly on my hair as I lay back
And let myself float in a state of pure serenity
