PUNCTURE MOST FOUL

“He’s right over here boss.
The right-front tyre found him this way.
He’s lost a lot of air,
EMT’s are on their way.
I assume it’s a nail puncture”
“Never assume anything DI Fulano.”

The victim is the left-front-tyre
Referred to as LFT for this record.

Addressing the companion tyres
“What can you tell me about the last 12 hours?”
“Well we’d been driven hard all day yesterday.
When we arrived home, after we cooled down a bit,
We went straight to sleep?”

“Did LFT complain of any inordinate discomfort?”
“That we recall, no.”
“What happened this morning?”
RFT responds, “Around 2 AM I awoke to a hissing sound.”
I looked over at LFT and he was listless,
Couldn’t even speak.
I, attached as I am, could do nothing.
Come daybreak, completely deflated.”

“Has forensics concluded their investigation?”
“It appears, from a portable MRI,
The damage was inflicted
by a steel spike approximately 16.5 cm in length”

“Look like we have a crime scene people...
Get the tape”

Mugging for the Paparazzi
( a Quatern )

Mugging for the paparazzi,
Rolling down the runway, foxy
Looking good, I’m hotsy-totsy,
People say I’m full o’ moxie!

See me pose on top this boxy
Mugging for the paparazzi,
Milk for all it’s worth when cocky
Comin’ through, this kamikaze!

Read my lips, I gotta handle,
Hands on hips I light your candle,
Mugging for the paparazzi
I am love unorthodoxy!

Pick a cause and open wallet,
Help the needy, go on, call it.
Read my slogan (show your proxy)
Mugging for the paparazzi!

The coffee mug photo:
I was included along with other poets who donated their names to be placed on merchandise whose proceeds went to charity.

Conception

I don't know how to pen Love
  I thought I did;
took Words by the balls --
            wrote them wearing red

Stared down each molten eye
bathed in breath and spit;
    their tinged ivory horns
    ancient as old teeth

Rode Passion bareback
   embedded nails in its skin;
dared Adventure into the wild
   threw Fear over a ledge

I didn't care about a broken neck --
   becoming trampled, gutted, or gouged;

on the contrary --

Death was the furthest planet of star
orbiting this lonely world

Control became a bloody sheath
for the pinion of my Art --
until it lay a pulpy mass
at the steel-toe of my Heart

In an arena frought with loss
I waved a lifelong standard
     reveled as a conquistador
though none of it really mattered

Until I challenged Love head on
   to the weapon of its choice;
I learned real quick --
    relinquished my sword
in the presence of its grace

After a lifetime marching
circles around its walls
I learned it wasn't Jericho --
no stones were going to fall

Love is not a Warrior
   bejewelled in Metaphor
   returning from the battlefield
   donning its prize in tow

It's a pauper on the family farm
sweaty from sowing seed --
   gifting all its ever reaped
to the ill and those in need:

to the naked dingy clothes
  the starving a meager meal
keeping ne'er a cent
   in their pitiful coffer

Love is not a duel at dawn
   or a garden wedding at noon;
it's not a holding on for Life
   but a gentle letting go

Love is complete Surrender
   in humble gratitude
   In acceptance lieth peace --
and where you'll conceive its Truth
~

ILLUSTRIOUS SUPPORTER

My name, frankly, is famous
Seen up in lights
“The Caine Mutiny,”
starring none less than Bogey.
Incomparable “Citizen Kane.”
I know they’re differently spelled
*but a Cane by any other name
does sound as sweet.

I’ve been lauded in song.
Like “Whoops there goes another…”
Wait, wait that's not it...oh yeah…
“C&H pure Cane sugar from Hawaii”
...da duh da duh da
And speaking of sugar...
I am immortalized
by the red & white striped
Christmas confection.

With the exception
of that guy in Genesis,
whom by the way was kicked out long ago
from Club de Nom Honoré,
Cane is by and large a respected name.

I have a perpetual Cane-do attitude
My primary role in life?
To keep this, somewhat Cane-tankerous older gent
upright, mobile, smiling bright,  and happy in life.
I just Canen’t help it...
I’m a giver.

Note: If invited to a top hat and tails gig,
I can give you the number to my hoighty toighty walkingstick cousin.

Oop! I wrote this piece based on "cane," not on the list, as opposed to "walking stick." My bad for not checking first. At any rate, enjoy!

Hey Varti

Thanks for joining us. Awesome write that btw!

Mr G

I reckon Cane / Walking Stick, is hardly any different. Probably a dialect thing more than anything else.

We'll accept that!
Thanks for running with this.

Message From a Bottle🍾

The journey lasted months by ship,
Each night the sea would surge
As passengers would lurch & tip,
Their gills, turned green, regurged.

My mates & I in stoic stance
Along the upper deck,
As two abreast we’d look askance,
Each customer a wreck.

Yet on this one particular,
Bartender reamed a glass.
No passenger was at the bar
And no one on deck passed.

I felt my liquor’s amber flush
As ocean made it known,
Was time to jump ship in the rush
Into the great unknown.

I heard the crash some of my mates
Thrown up against the hull.
Their bottled contents’ raining fate
Among the cry of gulls.

I was among the very few
Embraced between the waves,
The many colored rainbow hues
A lifeboat came to save.

I’m still the best in bourbon scotch,
In Adelaide a year.
For service you can set your watch,
It’s hot as Hades here.

Wire

Wound with strands in wire coils
In helical twist for voltage thats so positive
Reels they come in large or small
Energy ac or dc it just relative

With its terminals and connections
Insulate you from the power phase
Resistance feel the hearts convection
Elements for those cold days

Within the hard wire cage
Is today's barbs and vicious snags
Revolutions written on the page
Emotions ripped now to rags

When the message comes to shock
Is the connection hard now broken
Ringing change to wireless poppy cock
End all that high wire devotion

Dollar Bill

I wear the faces of dead presidents
after I paid for their assassination
I am the whore who seduces you
then shackles you
sucks the life force out of you
and leaves you
cold and empty
You fight wars for me
betray your best friend for me
sell your soul for me
and if you refuse
I will make you crawl on your belly
and beg for mercy
I do not accept rejection
I got you by the balls
I am the Nothing and the Everything
I am the favorite tool
of the masters
who enslave the world
Few can withstand my appeal
Most fall for the grand illusion
Which kind are you?

Hey Al!

I misread the guidelines ( fatigue or ignorance I guess ).  I thought we could take multiple words from the list, and I believe I've exceeded the word limit as well.  I swear I must've been half-asleep when reading.

I apologize for that.  I am trying to support more comps if time allows so I'll be working on a replacement.

Thanks for the gracious reply.

Hey hey Varti

No probs... They are guidelines rather than hard and fast rules.

Was curious as to what would come out of this type of thing. Totally impressed at how it's going.

Mr. Booky

I come alive when you look inside and expose my light
And if you choose to peruse through I'll make you bright
It's my delight to enlighten men, women and children
I have infinite amounts of wisdom to give once we begin

As your friend, I'll make you well versed so you won't have to curse
What I provide for your third eye is more valuable than a designer purse
I'll expand your universe and take you on a galactic voyage
Feeding your craving appetite with with a wealth of knowledge

Like porridge I'll stick to your ribs and help you gain weight
Affecting your destiny and your dreams by changing your fate
Don't wait and make the mistake of depending on others for your milk and cookies
Come ride with me in my Uber, I won't mislead you, and you can call me Mr. Booky

The Key To The Mystery

I Am A Mystery A Key To An Unknown Door

Or Perhaps A Gentleman's Cabinet Or Drawer

Maybe An Old Catacomb Or Cemetery Gate

Or A Hidden Dark Room To An Uncertain Fate

A Key To An Ancient Lost Pirate's Treasure Chest

Surrounded By Bones Of Those Who Laid It To Rest

Or Is It The Cursed Key To The Well To A Deep Hell

Chthonic , Demonic , Protected By A Magician's Spell ?

For What , And When Was I Cast , Molten Metal In My Past ,

In A Time Long Gone Before Taken From Earth As Iron Ore

This Is The Question Of Any Seeker Or Initiate I Must Ask

Before I Yield My Secrets , This Is The Task They Must Pass !
