Pen of Feathers

Oh yes, I know what sinister looks like;
sinister and I are old frenemies,
and you could think still further back.

You overlook the fact that
all blackbird, raven, and crow
are relations to the spirit world I know.

Indifference will not assuage
from the intelligence they carry
to keep me from daydreams

that feed not what I should know,
while what you profess makes sense
I too don't understand where it applies,

especially concerning magpies,
who are a generation distant from me
where trees are cousins who converse regularly.

So show me what you will or not,
I am mystified enough, to decipher
what I have seen in one's own soliloquy.

John's Cuban Heel Boot

I cannot be completely true
Of being twins, not Si'amese
We're not connected at the toe
My sibling mate, his brother I.

And being sold by auctioneer
I can't recall if we're mismatched
Perhaps the other leather boot
Was owned & worn by Harrison.

And if that's so as orphaned pair
We walked through life while two men lived
And entertained the world around
Till fashion changed to other shoes.

And while those years were very good
With music, lights, on stage to dance
I got to watch and be part of
The rocking Brit invasion scene.

I fit my master to a T
And it was me in "...Hard Day's Night"
As I kept taping time in song
Just like when John sang for the Queen.

The other boots & I were friends
And highly polished ev'ry day
We too were like celebrities
With copies made for merchandise.

I'll always miss the raucous times
When all four boys would work & play
It was a roller-coaster ride
In early days of Beatles fame.

But now for years I'm stored away
In proper box of acid-free
Where nothing ever happens here
I miss my youth with John and his.

Ballpoint Pen

The obsidian liquid runs through
The ballpoint pen
It moves with such ease
Caressing the paper

It curls and twists
On the vacant pages
Generating meaning
Ink bleeding into pores

It stains and scars
Milky white sheets
Leaving an impression
A signature

The pens desires
To express
The noir running through its vein
That drips through the ball
At the tip of the ballpoint pen

Indigo Soul

I give my life's blood to this lady
so she can create
my indigo soul
pours from my mouth
onto paper
and we tango

her thoughts, my essence
formulating words
conjured from the cosmos
she applies slight pressure
then away we go
dancing across the page
I swirl, she dips
her intellect, my tip

sharp as any razor
cutting all truth
separating fact from fiction
when a lie seeks freedom
I give her pause puddling on her paper
until she gives up the goods honestly

I am her life and her mine
more intimate than her husband
is Sir Quill of the order over writers

NOT JUST ANOTHER DISH TO WASH

Clattering tea cups.
porcelain gems,
landing safely in my groove.
Like sweet music,
now rarely heard

Once invited to every party.
Best supporting actor
to the raised pinky set.
Of biscuits and finger sandwiches
Able to bear the weight

Now to back-of-cupboard relegated.
Functionality unappreciated.
Appalled by water ring plague
marring the surface of too many fine tables
A crime so easily prevented.
And me helpless to assist

A saucer separated
from my beloved cup.
Frankly I blame coffee and coffee houses.
Making humanity conform.
To insulated, impersonal paper containers
I vow to regain my place at service
