Floods

It’d been raining for days,
Nonstop,
A deluge of epic proportions,
It was night when we heard
That the dam broke,
But in the darkness, there was no escaping it.
Suddenly waves and walls of muddy water
Covered the landscapes and fields,
Like monsters attacking in a dream.
The only thing I could do was run for the hills,
Hoping I could outrun the water’s rage,
But everywhere I ran it surrounded me
Death veiled in a liquid dark form.

Oh father of mine, I feel forsaken,
I’m being chased by nature’s fury
Without fault or prejudice,
Tell my mother that I tried…

I reached higher ground
But the soil would give way to the currents,
Following the fastest and easiest route,
And so I kept heading up into the hills,
With all the strength I could muster,
But the water was faster
Until at times it carried me,
Weakening me.

Oh mother of mine,
If you could hear me now,
Relay this message, this prayer to the lord,
Save my family and my sisters
So that they may live through horrible ordeal.

I was able to reach the foothills,
Beaten and battered by the water’s edge,
Crawling up the rocks and up the hills
That overlooked the city.
And then I saw the lights all over town,
Shutting down as the waters took a path,
People running for their lives
In the dark and great distance,
Hopeless against nature’s wrath.

Oh sisters of mine will you wake up,
And take your children and head for the hills,
The waters are relentless and will not stop,
Not for man, woman or child,
Not for a prayer if you keep still.

I stood at the top of that mountain,
Watching the destruction take its toll,
And with tears at the thought of being left alone,
Then I knew my children were in the course.

Oh wife of mine, soulmate, lover,
Won’t you heed my call through this prayer,
Hear the sirens resonating in the distance,
Damn this horrible dream I can’t wake up,
The dam has broken and the river overflowed,
Run for the hills and save our children,
The floods are upon us all.

Ghost Train

Tossing turning in Knotted sheets
go to a place where horrors breed
running fast with standing still steps
the devils hand pull at your legs

ride the apocalypse to Valkyrie screams
and maggots fly out of the dead eyes gleam
skulls that laugh with half eaten brains
held down with stringy black jelly chains

while hell's volcanoes spews rivers of blood
cauterized while the flow turns to mud
the cross that stands on horizons sky
a crucifix for a toothless vampire

pterodactyl's scream and cry
the wind in their wings clap and terrify
your life is replayed like slow motion despair
the jumble of child hood, the psychiatrists chair

prone to abuse the pain of incest
groomed by the smart and about to regress
falling and tumbling with mute screams
bottom rushing upward to greet me

palpitations ,convulsions  set in rigidity
gasping and grasping  panics last leap
CRASH and it all begins refreshed
the ghost trains endless express of death

- So Far Beyond -

Blues/Country Feel

So far beyond... this life been livin'.
Mistakes come haunt my nightmares sweet sweat.
What can you do when trust was given?
So young to bury in heart's regret.

Now,  broken down with head hung low.
Don't want to see...these eyes gone blind.
Feel feet shuffling,  as steps grown slow.
Cold...No sun...Ain't life unkind?

No forks left on this road to nowhere.
A path so worn nothing grows no more.
Living a lie,  no cares to bare.
Rain pours down,  soul-soaked to core.

Facing the west while shadow grow east.
Upturned and collared to winter's cruel blow.
Exposed to existence,  not sure known the least.
Every morning awaken to mirror's seen foe.

No will left 'cept will to find...
Somewhere a peace...a comfort of mind.
What I once found true...now sands in past's time.
Where there once was a life...now dreamscaped in time.

Sometimes the night forgives and allows,
The taste of lost loves and what's driven you on.
To pretend and deny what's made you so bowed...
An arrangment in Hell with tears and the bond.

I see people pass; a smile to their beat.
I see people longing for a chance of cards drawn.
I've seen them all from kings to the creeps.
One common thread is we're all chessboard pawns.

Sometimes we want so badly to be,
Someone other than we now are.
Somewhere another is longing to need
something inside but look to the stars.

Pain is numbed but at such a cost.
This constant contempment breed familiararity.
So bury the hurt in deepest of vaults
and live in self exile's purgatory.

Hard as I try to keep hope alive,
steeled compartments wave life aside.
Something inside has come to die.
And spent life waiting in a long,  lost goodbye.

Hard as I try to keep hope alive,
these compartments of steel allows life to go bye.
Something inside has come to die.
To spend a life waiting...In the long goodbye.

Misanthropic

Feels like my life is drawing to a close, a parting of flesh for all to judge.
Like my throat my emotions severely lacerated, a tarnished past leaves no future.
My torso ripped in two, like I was from you.
My carcass tells the story of suffering and fear.
My bloated ego fills the body with putrid methane.
No heart until it was built to feel for you, entwined in the mud it will stay.
My spirit never soared, it was instead chained to the cloud that looms over, the dog is my keeper.
A fitting end for a worthless life.

Box

Grey.  Blue-grey.
Playing a mind game as my eyes stay closed.
Slate grey.  Brownish.

Lying perfectly still.
Wondering what time it is.
The room I’m in is probably dark.

Wait.
I’m not perfectly still.
My diaphragm is moving as I breathe.

Now that’s all I’m aware of—

My breathing.
And my heart beating.
I need to focus.

Okay.
Black. No, not black. Focus.
Taupe. Dark taupe.

What the—
Tiny pinwheels of light
Floating in the... black?

From my mind. Wow.
I wonder when the doctor will return.
It’s getting warm.

.
.

*
Huhm. Huh?
I must’ve fallen asleep.
My nose itches.

I can’t reach... damn
There’s no room to move my arm!
Hey— my head just—

Jesus, what the hell is going on,
I can’t tell - are my eyes open??
What’s hitting my forehead?!

“Hello, is anybody there?
Nurse!  DOCTOR!!
WHERE IS EVERYBODY??

“CAN ANYBODY HEAR ME??
CAN ANYBODY HEAR MEEEEE...”

Congrats to slipalong and Reggie for their runner up places. My sincere thanks to our host Grace for the honor on this comp.
It was the most surreal/nightmare I've had in years that I surely had to write down.
Thank you for letting me share.
