Crystal Winter Sky
The day moves so slowly
Frozen in it's breath
Sun goes down so lonely
In the distant frosty west
Cold, malevolent winds are blowing
All hope has gone away
While fading life is flowing
Into a wintry, snowy haze
Icicles frozen in time
A snow angel spreads her wings to fly
Church bells and gongs chime
Hands reach out into a crystal winter sky
Frozen in it's breath
Sun goes down so lonely
In the distant frosty west
Cold, malevolent winds are blowing
All hope has gone away
While fading life is flowing
Into a wintry, snowy haze
Icicles frozen in time
A snow angel spreads her wings to fly
Church bells and gongs chime
Hands reach out into a crystal winter sky

Dragon Tails
A cold dark winter of baritone winds
grasping at my throat's Covid, coughing
with no time for lullabies or wings
listening to the dripping icicle's
like dragon tails in the gales
grasping at my throat's Covid, coughing

Autumn Leaves
I am surrounded by autumn leaves,
Their vibrant hues of crimson and gold,
Whispering tales of change and beauty.
The crisp air carries the scent of earth,
Dew-kissed mornings, and evenings in twilight,
Leaves gently falling like nature's confetti.
I walk through a carpet of russet and amber,
Each step a reminder of the cycle of life,
Nature's quiet song echoing in my heart.
The trees stand tall, their branches bare,
Yet full of grace and dignity,
Revealing the sky in its clear, blue splendor.
In this season of transition,
There is a quiet introspection,
A time to reflect, to breathe deeply.
The warmth of the sun is a fleeting embrace,
As it dips lower in the horizon,
Casting long shadows and golden light.
I am surrounded by autumn leaves,
Their dance in the wind a gentle reminder,
That beauty can be found in letting go.
The world is painted in a palette of warmth,
Every leaf a unique masterpiece,
A testament to the artistry of nature.
There is a stillness in the air,
A sense of peace and serenity,
As the earth prepares for its winter rest.
I find solace in this season,
In the ephemeral beauty of change,
The way it teaches me to embrace the unknown.
The sound of leaves crunching underfoot,
A symphony of nature's creation,
Each note a reminder of life's fleeting moments.
I am surrounded by autumn leaves,
Their presence a comforting embrace,
A reminder that change is both inevitable and beautiful.
The forest whispers secrets in the wind,
Stories of growth, decay, and renewal,
A cycle that continues unabated.
In the golden light of an autumn afternoon,
I feel a connection to the world around me,
A sense of belonging and wonder.
The colors of autumn are a balm to the soul,
Healing wounds with their vibrant display,
Nurturing a sense of hope and metamorphosis.
I am surrounded by autumn leaves,
Their beauty a reflection of life's impermanence,
A lesson in the art of embracing the present.
The world is alive with color and light,
A canvas that shifts with the passing days,
Each moment a brushstroke in the grand design.
As I stand amidst the splendor of autumn,
I am reminded of the beauty in change,
The grace in surrendering to the flow of life.
I am surrounded by autumn leaves,
Their dance a celebration of the season,
A testament to the enduring beauty of nature.

Season of Choice
It is the season of choice.
The season I find my love.
Where embers thaw and burn.
Bring me into your season.
Into warm nights of passion.
Where passion ignites senses.
Make me feel your season.
Into warm and sweaty embraces.
Where embracing smolders red hot.
Make me love and hate your season.
Love that summer of wet lips pressing.
Hate that winter of letting go.

Spring
At last, she arrives in splendour,
bringing her constellation of colours:
green shoots, white-pink blossom.
golden daffodils, purple crocuses
and even, after false starts,
an azure sky.
As new life beckons,
something awakens within me.
Although everything has its season,
the darkness never lasts
and Spring is just part of the cycle,
the promise of heat and light and hope
buoys me, and I breathe a little easier.

Must I choose a season
When they have their own work to get through
and mother takes a heavy blow for all of them?
I guess we'll sit playing pretend
like none of this is happening
as seasons become fluid
and keep melting ice caps.

When Fall Comes to New England
John Denver saw fire in the Colorado sky, but I've seen it in the trees of New England and didn’t need to be high to see it.
The smell of a sultry summer field as it yielded its annual organic essence to a foggy September morning. The cemetery where rests my ancestry, deeply ensconced in the vineyards near Dundee and Glen Eden. The smell of the catawbas would approach sensory overload at this time of year. An exceptionally warm day just after duck season, kayaking around the abandoned blinds in the marshes at the north end of Cayuga Lake. Taking that last swim if you were still feeling virile enough, and recollecting the first day you got in that year. A weekend cruising the cheese and syrup farms in Vermont, the apex of which was enjoying a smoky kick-ass breakfast of waffles & bacon, outside on the porch while bathing in the seasons ambiance. A dismally dark Thanksgiving afternoon where I was the only one left on my college campus. It was that afternoon when I first heard Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei. Being transfixed by it, I determined then that if circumstances allow, I would listen to it as I awaken from life's transient dream.
Now living half a planet away, these and many other autumnal moments are buried deeply in my bosom, and I nurse them tenderly whenever they come to the surface. Only so many clever words can be conjured up from the well where they reside. I've always envisioned fall to be like the days before the biblical flood where they say that people lived to be 900 something and the haze perpetually filtered out the UV rays. During the less hot months here, I can catch a faint likeness in the air that takes me to a visceral memory not unlike these. I never gave it a thought that autumn reverie would not be there for me to re-calibrate myself with. But that's OK because I like it here too.

Well dang. On my profile this submission shows it with 15 lines, but here the format has been adjusted to 18 lines. I was trying hard to behave myself and color inside the lines but this kind of silly stuff becomes me with me even trying.
If it takes me out of the running I totally understand.

A Child of Autumn
I wander in the heart of October's breath
listening to the mountains sigh
as in dreams as in a distant birth
I wander the misty sky
whispers of tune gold leaves flutter
the moon convenes with shadows
I as a wandering whisper of past laughter
walk and ripples the tranquil water
rain as dew from shades of soft rusts
fall down crags with muffled music
tones of blue gossamer waltz in Grace
autumn colours with time that drips
softly as silken linen fall
from up above to the ground
a figure a naiad a thought repelled
emptiness in poetry never found
listening to the mountains sigh
as in dreams as in a distant birth
I wander the misty sky
whispers of tune gold leaves flutter
the moon convenes with shadows
I as a wandering whisper of past laughter
walk and ripples the tranquil water
rain as dew from shades of soft rusts
fall down crags with muffled music

from up above to the ground

emptiness in poetry never found

Seasons Change, Do We ?
The mourning doves appeared today
I love their sound
It's a sign of Spring
Haunting
But
With hope ...
