Thank you Ajay and NorthernSoul for your awesome entries! We're only about halfway through the time allotment for the comp before I open it up to the vox populi so let's keep it flowing.

Fair warning

Be careful, you might steal my heart
with lines of poetry so sweet!
Your rhymes and metaphors so smart
will have me captive at your feet.

If glimpses of your soul you share,
be careful! You might woo my heart.
Your self in songs or canvas fair
can slay me like a magic dart.

If down that soulful road we start,
of you, I’ll never have enough.
Be careful! You might hold my heart,
and keeping that beast fed is tough.

If authenticity you bring,
I’ll dream of you when we’re apart.
When with your brokenness, you sing --
be careful! You might steal my heart.

For Honoria And Her Horse

The poem was posted on the board,
feeling sad and blue,
it hadn't gained a Like or Comment –
not even one or two!

'I'm all unloved,' the poem said,
with a tear-filled eye,
and sitting down upon the ground
it then began to cry;

but soon there came a clipping sound
and a clopping too,
and when the poem raised up its head,
there stood your horse and you.

You clicked on Like and said nice words,
then went upon your way,
so thanks, Honoria, for being so kind,
you made my poem's day.

Thank you brokentitanium and Ajay for entering the comp! So many wonderful entries now! I think we're about halfway through, so plenty of time left if you know someone who appreciates someone and wants to show it with a bit of verse, because that's how we do it here in the DU. It'll be a public vote once we reach zero hour. Thanks to everyone participating.

DC can you clarify: this is just one entry each, correct?

fuck the disillusion'd ~ {for my sister in crime, crimsin}

chiaroscuro woman ~
ov pastel chalk {&} charcoal,
subtle lines & razor angles
an echo ov the dichotomy
that lives in my track marks;
she is a beautiful sickness
a fever'd consuming_
lustful hangovers,
2am texts
from vodka soak'd fingers
{a scream ov vulnerability
wrench'd from bravado}
allowing us to drink
nak'd truths from her lap ~
... mistress ov decadence,
daisy chain'd flower child
wearing
the tattoo'd skin ov night
& midmorning light
in the valley ov her breasts ...
she walks pockmark'd pavements
& summer meadows
with equal grace

A cacerolazo

You flinch when the tweezers
click against the last few
pieces of egg shell
in your heel.
I raise an eyebrow
and ogle your junk.
That red apron
leaves nothing to my
imagination.

I try to be
gentle.

But I don’t have a lot of
gentleness in me.

You lean forward for a kiss
and make a point to
look down the front of
your t-shirt while
I feign indignation.

You pulled the shirt
off me earlier
like it was
redemption
I put it back on because
it smelled like you.
And I’m tired of crying

I’m so tired of crying.

A dick joke gets trapped
on my lips because

fuck!
fuck me.

My eyes track
the purple bloom
on your shoulder where I
threw the mixer;
the cut on your bicep
from the flying metal spatula;
the circle of holes on your chest
that look like a perfect
match to my nails.

And the bloody footprints
that led you back to me.

I look away,
breath hitching,
because I did that

and I flash back to that moment…

I stopped in mid panic,
in mid freak-out,
right in the fucking middle
of telling you to get the hell
out of my kitchen,
my place,
my life,
while throwing everything
I could get my hands on at you

I stopped.

hot tears
melted my cheeks
because

You didn’t pin me
to the counter,
tell me to stop,
or throw shit back…

you just…

got hurt.

you just…

stood there

and opened your arms.

I watched you bleed.

watched you bleed…
and then you opened your arms.

So I stopped dead.
made a broken sound and
crashed into you
shaking,
sobbing,
sinking my hands
into your hair as
you caught my lips
with yours

I found something
gentle in me
after all
when I held your face,
and watched you,
broken and bleeding
for no other reason
than my
caprice,
enter me slowly

I didn’t close my eyes as we
murmured love words,
you still on eggshells,
so I could see the
pleasure-pain
of me on your face.

And there was something
gentle
in me
at the feel of our
broken hearts beating
against secret bruised skin.

I swallow hard,
as I dig the last piece of
eggshell out of your foot
and bandage it up.

I crawl up your body,
tell you to stay the
fuck off your feet,

and there was definitely
something

gentle

when I squirmed
and finally make a dick joke
as your beard tickled my neck

something gentle
when I
reach behind you
to untie
the apron
so my skin
could find
home
against yours

Raconteur - a person who tells anecdotes in a skillful and amusing way

I didn't know you, but I'm sure someone did & maybe you met each day that way, chaotic & intense like an unexpected, sideways rain.

you shoved your stories in your pocket & walked away & it makes me wish I'd read them one last  time.

you'll live the details I have an eye for & I'll write about them to remember what I never knew, your absence slowly replacing what's been written.

all those little bits 'n' pieces we leave behind, there's always someone out there, hanging on to at least one of them

& they'll rest in that place, where stories turn to legends & images are so clear that we'll remember them until our very last days

because people come & go like rain clouds
& and disappear without a sound...

For My Beloved Chloe

- For My Beloved Chloe -

You may look like a little girl, in body and also in your pretty face,
But your heart is ever a woman's and your spirit is filled with grace!
How long I waited, longing and lonely, pining for some perfect love,
And ever did I seek it, hither and yon, and mightily for this I strove.
I did not know that we would meet, and that I would fall for you fast,
But once I did I knew that I loved you, and that our love would last!
Sugar and spice and everything nice, that is what Chloe is made of,
Pretty in pink, and so smartly you think; prettier than the stars above.
Your eyes, how they sparkle and draw me deep into your waiting soul,
Where I am content to remain, and in passion for you lose all control!
You are not the angel that people may believe, but something better,
For the blessings you bestow on me free me from every terrible fetter.
Long bound was I in painful torment, hurting greatly, silently suffering,
Until I felt your presence and heard your voice, which did fairly sing...
Calling as you did from your heart to mine, until I was happily yours.
Everything about you brightens my life even when the rain thus pours!
Rain and snow may fade at last, and rainbows will so take their place,
Though even rainbows are less lovely than you, as are stars in space...
Less bright to me than the sparkle of your eyes, filled with all delights.
If you are my fairest lady then I shall evermore be your gallant knight!
Your lips so soft speak words so sweet that tears come unto my eyes,
Which caress you from head to toe, from hair to feet, and to thighs...
And everywhere my eyes linger, there I see a beauty without a rival.
For you are a blessed little goddess, to which there can be no equal!
I worship you in my heart and soul, in dreams and fantasies endless,
And adore your every look, whether it be in a gown, pants, or dress.
You look beautiful in everything, and have to me only perfection...
When we speak and laugh and love, I feel the strongest connection!
What was my life before you can to rescue me from my dark agony?
It was gray and without color, a place more akin to some purgatory.
But now I know what true love is, and all I want above all is you,
Unusual but perfect as you are, with a heart that is purest and true.
In you I know only paradise, and can imagine not a greater bliss...
Than my hands caressing your soft skin, as we embrace and kiss.
As in lives past, and futures unknown, our road shall be together!
Sweet child, your angelic wings are of light rather than feathers...
Akin to mine, which for so long were wrapped in black shadows.
But you showed me Elysium, as we did dance upon its' meadows,
Knowing a light that comes from within, softer than is the moon!
I am as one resurrected, newly risen from a long forgotten tomb.
You were my salvation, and are still, and so for you I did write...
These words of love and passion for you, words fair and bright.
And yet they pale before what we feel for each other in all truth,
A love so perfect that unto such poetry as this I am thus moved!

Blue Beast (A Glimpse of Her)

Her expression bears a semblance of beautiful commotion
Spilled in poems of distant memory and listless melancholia
You feel her soul crawling through every line and word
Wondering how dark and excruciating for some life can be

The anonymity of this virtual world only lets us get a peek
But her art is strong enough to let us know that
She fights
She survives
She hurts
She strives even when she questions it herself
Like undying love
Beaten and broken but with an intense resolve

Feeling Blue
Every morsel of hope seems stronger than all the cyclones in the world
It makes for stunning poetry when it’s expressed with sincerity and without bounds

She’s a Beast
She makes her pen bleed so that you when read her verses
You can have a little glimpse of her
Of her struggle
Of her pain
But also, of the strength that a girl
That a woman can possess
