Poetry Contest Description
Write a poem that involves tea for National Tea Day
It’s nooooo secret that I love me a good brew. I’m currently drinking an orange and vanilla lapacho blend as we speak.
April 21st every year is national tea day. Coffee and cigarettes have long been associated with poetry, but tea, with its delicate nuances savoured is quite often overlooked.
So write a poem that involves tea somehow. Get creative with it. See where it takes you.
Rules
• New writes only
• Must involve tea somewhere in the poem. Whether it’s observational, love, or erotic, is completely up to you. See where it takes you.
• Wanna submit visual / audio / image poems? You do it, hun.
• No restrictions on length or word count.
• As many entries as you like.
• 2 weeks.
Oh and this for inspiration 🫖

you-and-me tea
We may all hate
this janky two-bedroom place
and the crazy-glue that holds it together,
but you have to admit
it has the most glorious,
gigantic bathtub.
Somehow there's room for all six feet of you.
I bet I could scuba dive in there.
There's nothing better than soaking with you
in that clawfoot
in water that's almost too hot,
cheeks to cheeks and legs criss-crossed,
candles lit and music on
where we can touch and talk
and sing Sweeney Todd
and clean our systems out.
Forget about the rest of this
falling-apart house.
Let's just brew something good
out of you and me.
I love your flavor,
and I know you dig mine,
but it's a drink for the drain
once I'm done rubbing your tired feet.
Let's just stay close,
lingering too long
in perfect company
while we steep and
watch the steam.

Lovely start! Thank you :)
"cold hands, warm heart"
she dreamt badly
woke to last night's animosity flung
all over the kitchen table
uneaten love
smudged into the woodwork
bite marks in candles
burnt from both ends
jagged bone tips, marrow baking
sun on grime through the window
the diffuser clinks softly
into her glass mug
the big one that warms her hands
she has enough for this day
that honeyed fortitude down her throat
reminding her she is descended
of women who blended herbs
to ease a trouble
or create them new
today her blend is Jasmine green ease
and lemon re-order
cooling breath lightly rippling
over the surface of the new day
warm hands, learning heart
she is enough

Just stopping by 😊

I Like Mine, Hot and Black....
The tea,
you filthy minded figs....
Whatever did you think, I meant?
Of course , the tea---and it must be black
to bring out the grainy luster
in my wood floors
when I wash them with it.
Ten tea bags in a hot water bucket,
makes for a steaming scorpion bowl,
mop-ready,
that'll strip off layers of disgust, and
years of neglect
before the polish goes on.
(It also works, just spiffy, to age fabric ,
with that vintage tea stained look)
I pour a separate cup for myself, though
so that I might sip, as
I ponder, why the tea-wash
is one of the only useful
(and completely truthful )
things, my Mother ever imparted on me.
My floors do look fantastic.

bittersweet
I remember being so poor
we slept on couch cushions
in the kitchen in winter
used the oven as a heater
We lived on charity bread
cheesy polenta
and chicken bouillon soup
I'd heat rice milk on the stove
with honey and black tea
for a cold night treat
sipping the sweet warmth
under the covers
while we watched a dvd
on my dodgy laptop
before falling asleep
to the glow of the oven light
It's been a decade since
money was so scarce
I own a microwave
and no long need to sleep
in front of kitchen appliances
to stay warm
when the weather gets cold
But I remember how it felt
standing in front of that stove
making sweet tea
anticipating the way
it would warm my bones
on the frozen nights
when money was scarce
and the dvd movies were good

T for V
It was at the height of the pandemic
When the world went into isolation
Everyone quarantined and stayed indoors
And two vampires felt the desperation
Eduardo the Exsanguinator and Slim Tim
Could not find a victim to feast upon
Nobody dared walked the dark streets
Not even a single nightowl or moron
Eduardo and Tim were very bewildered
Why no one was leaving their homes at night
There were no necks to nibble or suck on
No unsuspecting prey to put up a fight
For many nights the vamps walked around
Looking for flesh to bite with their fangs
But not even nightwalkers dared to stroll
Eduardo and Tim felt many hunger pangs
One night as they lurked in the shadows
Eduardo suddenly heard some noise
But it was Slim Tim going through the trash
Looking for something as if he had no choice
Eduardo the Exsanguinator raised his voice
And said “Tim, you’re a vampire!” very angry
“I’m just looking through the garbage” Tim said
“I’m getting desperate and I’m very hungry”
“You are a creature of the night” Eduardo said
“You have lived through wars and famine
You are an eternal being walking this earth
You have done things humans can only imagine’
“You are an immortal hunter” Eduardo added
“What could you possibly find there of quality?”
With his stomach growling Slim Tim answered
“I’m looking for a tampon to make some tea”
