Art Must Exist

Poetry Contest Description
Write a poem about the comfort of art in dire circumstances
I recently watched this video on Facebook, of a defiant Ukrainian woman playing her piano for the last time in her bombed out home after a Russian attack.
It completely moved me to tears, the thought that even in the midst of something so barbaric, there is still life, and art to be found. Beauty in the chaos.
You can view the video here:https://fb.watch/bIiJlXZEAz/
Write a poem inspired by the bravery of this video. How art, and music, and love exists even in the most dire of circumstances, using the video as inspiration. It doesn’t necessarily have to be about the Ukrainian / Russian conflict — use it as a base, and see where the idea takes you.
Rules
• New writes only
• No political chit - chat on the comp thread
• No erotica
• Visual / audio / video entries permitted
• 2 weeks
• Up to 2 entries per human being.
Thank you 🎶

The Monarch
In a land filled with smoke
A monarch flaps her wings
Billowing the smog
Far beyond the kingdom's walls
Embers blaze, only shadows persist
For light is a miracle
And God has no place for that
This courtyard is desecrated
once a sanctuary, now a prison
But she blazes among the grey
a prism of hope against reality
Bullet holes in paper wings,
Bombshells in flower meadows,
Ashes in bright memories
The house is annihilated
Yet her hope is untouched
In a land filled with smoke
A monarch flaps her wings
In this world scorched by hatred
Still, faith finds its way
A monarch flaps her wings
Billowing the smog
Far beyond the kingdom's walls
Embers blaze, only shadows persist
For light is a miracle
And God has no place for that
This courtyard is desecrated
once a sanctuary, now a prison

You're Free To Dance
In a conversation
of freedom and
open mindedness
The analogy of dancing
naked in the rain
is anchor to discussions
It's interesting
that water droplets
falling on undressed skin
(when an umbrella could protect us)
is the mental theater
associated with
being un-shackled
de-chained
removed from slavery
The human race has fought
freedom of sex
since Adam was led
tempted by the temptress
to bite an apple
There comes a time
when you've fought
for freedoms
repetitively;
read on the topic
that you realize
sex is just art
(especially, when done right)
dance is an art
and it's an art
whether you're dressed
on the pole
or not
When information collides
we realize people
are an art
with all their colorful
choice of characters
values and personas
We realize a simple update
comment
poem
story
song
drawing
or even graffiti
is art
ALL ART
is a voice of reason
all reason
should be free
to exist, as freely as
every thought
that crossed your mind
as my words
entered your mental theater
of conscious
theory
I'd fight for rights
of thought
you should fight
for the right
to
art

This is not an entry...
It's a old write, that came to mind when I saw this comp...
thought I'd share!

I remember this one.
… of course I fkn do.
It reminds me, I literally wrote about this quote yesterday in reply to a comment to somebody:
“Dance, when you're broken open. Dance, if you've torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance when you're perfectly free.” - Rumi
Thank you for sharing. Of course, if you would like to enter with a new entry as well you are most welcome.
Cheers 😊

Boom! Boom! Splash!
I'd punch
the damn table top to shreads
if it made any sense
as much as
they choose to bomb
limbs of children
In their so called
humanitarian project
frankly
with enough acrylic
and a sheet
of abrasive paper
I'd far rather
spill paint from
180 angles and 360 views
like a pool splash party
until my exploding ulcers
inflamed intestines
and super turbo
blood designs
pour abstract unity
before lights go out
over that same wreched
table top
replacing broken
with a sight for
future dinner cook-a-thons
and a wedding party
center piece

Étude Op. 25, No. 1 - Amidst the Ruins
Her melody carries a new kind of melancholy
amidst the ruins of her home
Even war cannot kill the human spirit
Because beauty
can be found even in the darkest places
even in the harshest zones
Broken chords
unspoken words
the sound travels in the air
Beyond the rubble and debris
Each note knows no boundaries
Going far
to hearts and ears in the vast distance
giving hope
Her melody buries the grief and sorrow
Even if it’s just for a little while
Because yesterday’s history
cannot tell tomorrow
As the music soothes the soul
bringing tears and smiles
She plays beautifully
amidst the ruins of her home
To an audience all around the world
A masterful performance
that echoes in the human spirit
Knowing she’s not alone

If ever the day comes
where the
music ends
the painting
stops
Or words
don't find
their voice
then on that day
fetch a slice of
granite
cut it to shape
polish to a shine
erect it in the
graveyard
above the buried
body of mine.
call it a mid-night
N I g H t M a R E
as the doves take flight.

courage
there is dignity still. yes there is courage
sadness peaks and overpours it must be expressed
let notes of powerful beauty explain
bombs and guns can not silence the soul of the brave
the blood of humanity will cry out to the heavens, hear the Ukraine
rising on the winds to reach the hearts of others
yes, I'm still here, feel my pain
in the tall of my back I am speaking to the downtrodden and afraid
music soothing the frayed spirits
for a moment transported to better days
in an instant all the joyous days spent playing piano for family
is collected note by note and carried away
I weep, I am nothing, but time will remember each refrain
it sees the atrocities it will not look the other way
encompassed in a moment...the Ukraine

Firstly, congrats to all who entered. Phenomenal reads.
Secondly, I had to disregard the last two entries as they were entered after the end time. Which is a shame because they were both awesome. But rulez is rulez.
Thirdly, the win is going to _feral. Because I can’t not. They absolutely threw it down on the page and embodied the artist for me.
Thank you for your considerations in this contest and for making it awesome 😎
