My Mind Slips Away
Somewhere between the Ocmulgee and Tallapoosa
My mind slips away back beyond yesterday
A dew with some jack
A tee top chevy a Skynyrd eight track
Play it pretty for Atlanta always takes me back
I still feel the sun shining on your face
Making memories that time can't erase
We drove that chevy into the night
Passing through jukin city
like on an airplane flight
Playing tracks 2 and 3 over and over
for what seemed like an eternity
Your simple man was all I ever wanted to be
Time gave me a life without you
It’s been simple but somehow I always knew
With the wind Tuesday gone
All that left is a memory and this song.
I still drink my dew with some jack
With every sip it takes me back
Time drifted us apart
Now my grandkids fill my heart
So many years have passed by
Your memories still fall from my eye
You lost my last name
A bird I couldn't change
Free bird you'll always be...
My mind slips away back beyond yesterday
A dew with some jack
A tee top chevy a Skynyrd eight track
Play it pretty for Atlanta always takes me back
I still feel the sun shining on your face
Making memories that time can't erase
We drove that chevy into the night
Passing through jukin city
like on an airplane flight
Playing tracks 2 and 3 over and over
for what seemed like an eternity
Your simple man was all I ever wanted to be
Time gave me a life without you
It’s been simple but somehow I always knew
With the wind Tuesday gone
All that left is a memory and this song.
I still drink my dew with some jack
With every sip it takes me back
Time drifted us apart
Now my grandkids fill my heart
So many years have passed by
Your memories still fall from my eye
You lost my last name
A bird I couldn't change
Free bird you'll always be...

White Butterfly
I had never seen or felt something so serene
The wind caressing me softly through my hair
I had never been so at ease feeling inner peace
As the sound of nature filled the mountain air
It was supposed to be a simple visit to a temple
Nestled between the canyons amid the greenery
Never before I had seen so much beauty and lore
My heart still smiles when remembering the scenery
It was after sitting in the temple in quiet reverence
That we walked the grounds enjoying the silence
And when my sons curiously rang the peace bell
It was as if the resonance seemed to bring balance
I stood there listening to the echo reverberating
It had this kind of spiritual significance
Because then a tiny white butterfly flew by me
With extraordinary magnificence
I’ll never forget my visit to the temple
The white butterfly seems like a reverie
It was a brief but beautiful encounter
Forever imprinted in my memory

Migrated home
I first saw you
At the beach bonfire
Through flashes of light
Against your electric silhouette
We were opposing magnetic forces
Drawn to each other
For those long summer nights
We were inseparable
In heaven
As angels we trod the sandy Earth
Consumed with each other
But as the leaves began to fall
Ushering in the cold
We became cold
And migrated back home
At the beach bonfire
Through flashes of light
Against your electric silhouette
We were opposing magnetic forces
Drawn to each other
For those long summer nights
We were inseparable
In heaven
As angels we trod the sandy Earth
Consumed with each other
But as the leaves began to fall
Ushering in the cold
We became cold
And migrated back home

Meant for only a moment
I said a prayer, no wife should have said
I said I wouldn't... but then I did
You thought me worthy
And loved me best
Our souls they mated, love obsessed
Such moments like
we should leave in place
Pages turned, but not erased
Every fire lives... until it dies
Writing us beautiful,
unlike the world and before the lies
I said I wouldn't... but then I did
You thought me worthy
And loved me best
Our souls they mated, love obsessed
Such moments like
we should leave in place
Pages turned, but not erased

The day the fair came to town
Gaudy music leaves a stain
the generators powering its gauche proclaims
steam organs dressed with wooden drummers
automaton all the bandstand playing Souza
the music like the rides swirl your emotions
a Scottish reel with kilt a blowing
undulating like the waltzer
a swarthy grin that spins the seat
screaming like the noon express
abandon in delights volumptuosness
bright youth however old you are
dislodge a coco-nut so shy
a soft toy, a prize, sizzling like burger fries
a kiss as soft as candy floss
riding on an undulating horse
headonism a Ferris wheel so high
no subtle thrills, is there no limit
for the starry eyed, just one a minute
electric cars with sparks a flashing
crashing, bashing, belly laughing
toffee apples oh so sweet
memories we never can repeat

Synesthetica, Part I (Aspectu)
i. aspectu
(sight)
old world
apothecarium
tucked into
crumbling
architecture
on an otherwise
nondescript
Main Street,
digested
treasures
in bulbous glass
bellies;
walls of books
keeping
ancient secrets;
totems
and trinkets
line shelves
of stained
wood,
oversaturated
with
nostalgia
antique
street lamps
lending
softness
to earthy
cobblestone
beneath
my feet;
tree canopies
reaching across
narrow streets,
insulating
my vision
late afternoon rain
ink blots
riding rain drops
down
foggy
windows,
making mirrors
of muted shades
reflecting shimmers
from above,
hiding shapes
in the
shadows
of forgotten
corners

Heaven✈️
( a Rensaku = linked Tanka )
✈️
before Corona,
Mother had stepped out of time
just before morning,
and into eternity—
It was brief, but beautiful
✈️
her journey blessed me,
and taught me about heaven;
I knew she was there
with the sunrise at her back,
and I’ll miss her till we meet
✈️
I, unplanned, arrived
when her first 2 daughters
were young women,
and so our parents began
to start all over again
✈️
free as a sparrow—
as a child I felt airborne
in the semi-arid
foothills overlooking
the valley sage and gullies
✈️
I was age three when
for my first flight with mother
and my fabric doll
on a local coastal trip,
hidden for a few minutes
✈️
The plane leveled off—
my face against the portal,
slowly through the clouds
angels flickered in their flight,
“I’m in heaven!” as I smiled
✈️
too soon, it was time—
trips on 4-engine prop planes
can’t last forever
it was brief, but beautiful,
while I have come full circle
✈️

Happy Memories With You
Our paths merged and became one.
I thought this would be what I always
Wanted, love and something that lasts
Forever. We are always chasing the sun
As long as we have each other. Our gaze
On the horizon and sky, our murky pasts
Forgotten. Baby, it was just you, me and
The happy memories we hold in our hands.

Thank You Host Faithmaree for the comp & awards.. Congratzz the winners ... But sorry to say, I had just deleted my entry juz now after noticing... that you had been awarding the same person continuously for your last three comps.. & its suddenly that too you are in a spree of running so much comps. continuously... I love Jade & her poems, they stand out sure... I have nothing against her or anyone.. But the way you are awarding does seem to raise more questions .. on the credibility of these comps. & the way its being judged... When we talk so much about Multiple Profiling Anonymities, The DU Behaviour & Rules & Ban these times, I am talking not only to You... But to the whole of DU & Members & Web Miss.. That such indicators are only not making DU anymore a healthy poetry site... This is my humble opinon being a member long since a decade almost now... Lets sort things out here .. then & there.. If you awarding someone , then can we all know on what basis you do it & why you awarded such entry... If you see the comps run by me or Robuma.. we have clearly stated the winning criteria & why an entry wins,,, we say when we award.. That way, the transparency & healthiness of not just the comp. but the whole exercise & the poetry site .. & all our quality time is being well spent in honest truthful creation... Thanks & Best Regards!
